: ARB compressor broken?

I went out wheelin on my maiden voyage with the ARB to today. It was kicking some serious ass until we stopped and turned the engine off to check something out. When I got back and turned the engine back on the compressor just kept running. So I tunred the switches off and When I switched the compressor switch on it would do nothing but if I had both switches on, the comp switch and rear switch on, the compressor would turn on and not stop running.

When I got back home I jacked up the axle and turned the tires, expecting the tires to turn the opposite way of each other, but I turned one and the other wouldnt move? So I went to see If I could lock by turning on both switches and again the compressor would just stay on and the rear wouldnt lock.

The cyliniod (sp?) that has the pressure release valve on it would constantly vent while the compressor was on.....when my buddy put his finger over the valve the compressor would stop.

So what do you guys think it could be? Clogged compressor? Clogged diff valve? Bad seals in the locker? Im bummed big time. And I thought that when a diff is open the tires should spin in different directions when off the ground but when I spin mine only one spinns and the other stays in one spot?

thanks for any input.

If you're holding your finger over the pressure release valve and the compressor stops it sounds like the compressor works but the release valve is stuck open. Do you have a pressure gauge on the system?

Can your finger really hold the 90 lbs pressure needed to activate the lockers?

No pressure gauge and the release valve doesnt seem to be venting at full force. Doesnt seem nearly as powerful than when it depressurizes after turning the system off when it was working ok. Thanks for the response though keep em coming. Whats the symptons of a comrpessor that has gulped some water? Will it turn on at all?

You valves are backwards. Meaning the port thats screwed into the compressor is the low port of the air valve and the high input to the air valve should plug into your air line to your Diffs.

How do I know? I did the samething a while back and kicked my butt for a few minutes until I figured it out. Luckly it was only one diff so after a few minutes of comparing the front and the rear it made since.

The locker worked fine for the first part of the trail, I tested it with a jack before we went to make sure that the locker was engaging. Luckily it went out after the part of the trail that I really needed it. It was DEFINITELY locked for the first half of the run...how do I know? I wouldnt be here typing, Id be stuck out in woods on some rocks.

VTechTJ, the above quote is probably the problem....

Will it still work/lock for a little while even if the valves are backwards? Ill check it out though thank you very much for the advice.

Could it still be the port if it was working before??? It was functioning properly through most of the day....it was the first day that I have used it though

I just checked to see if the cyliniod was assembled correctly, port #1 into the compressor and port #2 into the airhose fitting......and it is. Still might take it apart and check the valve but I really dont have any idea what it could be
