: Putting 42s on Hummer Wheels
DavidO 04-13-2002, 09:59 AM OK, everything has come in. Last night I started putting them together. I did a search and found nothing, now I have a couple of Qs.
1. Are there any torque specs on the runflat bolts?
I put the runflat together inside of the tire. That was pretty easy. When I went to put it together, I just had the jack on backside pushing against. I took the front and pushed it on. I started the bolts that I could and tightened them down a little until I could get all of the bolts on. Now that I have them all on, I start hitting them in a criss-cross patern until I feel resistance.
I've been doing this with an impact. I have all of the bolts (8) started, but it seems like it's really pushing hard on them. I'm wondering:
2. Is there any chance of ripping off the stud?
3. What do I do about the gap that's there?
4. Which is most likely?
a. it's ok, keep tightening and it will come together.
b. it's misaligned, it should come together easier than that. Take it apart and try again.
c. 42s are too fat for the hummer wheels.
I'll try to attach some pics if I can get them together in time...
I appreciated any help.

WOLF359 04-13-2002, 03:57 PM That's what I did, the start thread thing and then criss cross till they are all tight.
You're rims are only 8.25 wide though, so 42's are really going to need some sucking in to fit. I widened my rears to 16 wide and the fronts to 12 wide to get them to fit the boggers.
Tim.
DavidO 04-13-2002, 07:03 PM Thanks all!!
Especially Fat City and RockTaxi for the PMs. Just knowing that they WOULD fit and to use soapy water, that really helped. Mostly it all went pretty smooth. Once you get them to suck down on the bead, it's quite an experience trying to get it back off.
The only problem that I had was that I cross threaded several of the bolts. Most of them I was able to fix. But on one of the wheels, I stripped the threads (out of the inside of the nut). I'll have to round up a tap and die set to repair the threads on the stud. They're not bad, they just have a lot of extra metal in there. I'll have to do a little repair on one other also that got cross threaded, but not bad.
To anyone that's going to be mounting these in the future, I would recommend thoroughly cleaning the threads on both the nuts and studs. I did a little, but a little more attention to that would have gone a long way. Be sober also, that helps.:p
Three are holding air. We'll see how the one looks in the morning. Thanks again for everyone's replies. Have a good weekend.

Yeah, what he said..........
Cajun 04-15-2002, 12:36 PM FAWKIN' RIGHT!!!
I'm not sure if the tires make you look short or you make the tires look tall. Let me know if you need a hand integrating a ladder into your rocker guards. :flipoff2:
I would still love to install my 42's on Hummer rims, but the backspacing just looks like too much of a pain to deal with :(
DavidO 04-15-2002, 12:54 PM Thanks cajun, you :rainbow: . :flipoff2:
That's why I didn't want to tell you that I'm not wearing any pants in that pic.  Don't go pasting me on pics for your kiddy porn ring, AGAIN.:barf: :barf:
I paid right around $1,100. I saved about $150 buying blems. They're all blems and they come well marked. They each have two or more stickers and a couple of white BLEM stamps on them also. But for a set of tires that I'm going to abuse anyway, it seemed like a good place to cut a couple of $$ out. We'll see how they go.
Cajun 04-15-2002, 02:06 PM Hey dirty old man,
Your reply included references to :rainbow: , kiddie porn, and you not wearing pants. What was on your mind when you posted that?
DavidO 04-15-2002, 02:12 PM Actually, it was mostly about you and :rainbow: kiddie porn.
What a weirdo!:rasta:
Leave me alone. Some of us have work to do....:flipoff2:
