I ran into a friend today who is looking to get rid of his Snap On fm140a mig/tig set up. He told me he has a spool gun for it too.

I have a Hobart handler 135 which has served me well so far and one day I was wanting to get a TIG(and a bigger MIG) also but I know it was soo far away I havent put any time into any real research as to what machines and set ups are worth a damn.

The only things I have really built so far have been a roof rack, some bumpers and a tire carrier, on top of other misc things. No frame work or structural. I know I dont have a machine for it.

I know alot of if this is dependant on the type of work I plan on doing but most of the stuff I do really varies quite a bit, most of it seems to be hobby things and misc things for friends. Being a college student has put a cramp on tools/machines for fabrication and toys to fab things to. But if it is a good deal I can dig into my savings some and pick up a decent machine to learn on and go from there.

I can pick the machine up for under $1k

I guess more less what I am asking is this an over priced machine(like alot of Snap On stuff) or is it worth while to pick up.

Any information will be a great deal of help.

we have one at work. it is still a 110Vwelder, and therefore is extremely picky about settings. get a 220V welder it will fit your needs better as you grow into it. i have a lincoln 175, and it works well. miller and hobart will be good choices as well.you can get these cheaper to the same price as the 110v shap-on unit.
