I have my axle finally stripped and ready for brackets. BUT I cant decide on where and what brackets to get, It's going into an 04 TJ. I here M.O.R.E. has a great 8.8 kit but for the $350 I found them for it seems a bit steep.

Can anyone post up some links to where I could find a good set of brackets that are also farily priced?

How Did U Strip It Down, I Mean The Brackets, Did U Have A Plamsa Or Did U Use An Angle Grinder

Contact Andy at www.carolinarockshop.com

I bought a set of brackets made for the 8.8 for $240 shipped. This kit even relocates the sway bar so no grinding is necessary to the housing.

And, when I screwed up one of the brackets he had a replacement sent to me for nothing.

Actually used just a grinder....was a bit time consuming but I dont have access to a plasma cutter so it had to do. Overall I went through 2 wheels and I also used those for stripping the axle down completely....For all that have done the 8.8 swap, did you keep the factory brakes on there or swap them out?...I call them dustsheilds but the round plates the drums are on, on mine are pretty mangeled up....Any farily priced replacement out there?

Yeh luckily my E-Brakes in pretty good shape, so I guess I just need to find a new sheild and attach the stock e-brake to it....

i got a d35 housing and used the brackets off of that, cost me nothing but a few hours to cut nice and grind em right. i never hooked the ebrake back up, have the hardware sitting in the garage though

I have the RE brackets, they work great. If you want more clearance, look into the polyperformance link brackets as they are designed to sit higher on the tube. Link mods may be require though.

I'm going to go ahead and make my own. I mean look at them there is really nothing there for over $200, thats crazy. I have all the control arm mounts and everything figured out but I'm not sure what to do about the coil buckets? Has anyone made there own or if I could just get a close up picture of one of the RE ones that would be awesome. Thanks for any help!

I couldn't stand to pay more for the brackets than I did for the axle either . . .

Cut out a couple of circles - 7 1/2 inches in diameter. I used a piece of 2 1/2 inch dom for the center. I cut the center holes with a hole saw. Some smaller circles with 1/2 inch holes drilled and nuts welded on for the spring capture plate.

245488

Cut some angle stock to fit nice and snug on the axle tube. I was going to cut a radius in the angle to fit the circle, but it was easier to just slice the edges off the nice circles I had just cut. If I was smarter I would have cut the sides straight to begin with and it would have been a bit easier. As luck would have it I found a piece of pipe in the shop that is exactly 3 1/4 inches same as the axle tube. Worked nicely as a jig to keep everything straight while I welded it together from both sides.

245490

Ground all the welds smooth and it sits nicely on the axle.

245491

I started on these before I actually got the axle so that piece of pipe was really handy for fitting until I got the real thing. I just happened to see the spring retaining plates on the shelf at the local 4x4 shop where I picked up the axle. Got the pair for 5 bucks so I didn't have to make those, and they even had a 1/2 inch hole.

Mine reused the D35 brackets and I have beat on them for almost 2 years now. There is a vendor here on PBB that sells a set for under $175 and the REs aren't much different than that. Give James at J&C a call if you can't find the PBB vendor any longer, he will take care of you.
