: Hummer beads and clearance???

Sorry if this has been discussed at length, but I did a search and didn't come up with anything.

I'm in the process of building a set of 60s for my YJ (standard rear, Ford HP front). Been going back and forth on the hummer beadlock issue. As it appears to me, the only real issues involved are clearance. I'll be building a high-steer setup using flat plates where the kingpins are in the front.

Will the backspacing of the hummer wheels necessitate a rethinking of how those brackets are built? And will it interfere with the 1 ton TREs I'll be using? At first, I'd be mounting 38.5x14.5 SX to these wheels. Will I still have a turning radius, or will the tires constantly be into my springs (SOA Wrangler with factory spring mount position)?

Finally, it sure seems like when eyeballing it, my front hubs would be totally hanging outside of the wheel and tire. How does this work in the real world? This is for a dedicated rockcrawling rig that sees a substantial amount of trail duty on tight Arizona trails; don't want to be ripping Warn hubs off every weekend.

I'm also on a budget and don't have the cheese for any sort of custom reworking of the hummer wheels to change the backspacing. Hell, the backspacing and keeping my width close to where it currently is is the real reason I'm considering the wheels in the first place on a set of full-width 60s.

Thanks in advance for any insight or links that I may have missed.

I will be mounting my 44's to hummer wheels as soon as I get them. I also will be doing arms like Mo has that can be found here: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=43309

Here's some other info to chew on: :D

Grinding needed to clear tierod not using spacers: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=40213&highlight=hummer

Here's one with spacers to clear the tierods in stock location: http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?s=&threadid=29212&highlight=hummer

Here's a site with some pics of how far the hubs stick out: http://www.members.tripod.com/surfmac/ttc.html

this is with 38.5x14.50 TSL/SX's on a 79 ford axle with stock hubs and 1" wheel spacers:

try running dually hubs if you can find them cheap. They will make you about the same as standard full width. This of course will mean you have to build a spacer in the rear like gohumvee unless of course you are going to run rear steer.

That's a good idea:beer:

Doesn't really apply to me because I'm running 15x10 beadlocks on my 60, but still a really good idea.

Has everyone else thought of that already and I just missed it:confused:

Everyone: Thanks for the replies and links so far. Much appreciated. TJ7, let me know how yours works out.

As for dually hubs and flanges, I'm not exactly tracking here. Can someone explain those options to me (much like I was a 2-year-old)?:rasta:

If it helps, I won't be running rear steer, but have no problem with a slightly narrower track width in the rear.

Dually hubs and flanges will set the rim out farther than a regular single rear wheel truck axles. Designed around the goofy offset of dually front rims. Duallys got wider fronts and narrower rears.

Here's what the dually hubs look like:
