I may be picking up a mid 80's (I think) CJ-7 with a 304,t-18,d300. And the word is, from the sellers brother, that it has bigger axles, 33's and a detroit rear.
I already have a Ford HPd60 under my deck that was gonna go in my TJ. But I may sell the TJ and buy a tow rig and just tow the CJ.
What d60 would I want to use for the front of this CJ. Obviously a chevy or dodge because I want passenger side drop.
But what would I need to do with the spring perches and stuff like that. I think I may need to outboard the springs or something like that(I dont know what that is)
I would be 4 linking the rear as well with a 14bff. But thats besides the point.
So which D60 front do I want for a CJ that will be SOA?

It's alot cheaper to get a drivers drop t-case than sourcing another axle, not to mention that the hp60 is about the most desirable of the bunch. You could do a flip kit on the D300 that's probably in the cj or install an NP241, or really step up to one of the aftermarket cases.
You'll either have to outboard your front spring perches or narrow the housing (the first being much easier) since the CJ's have a pretty narrow frame rail configuration.

I agree on keeping the ford hp60 and just flipping the d300. You already have the parts and flipping the d300 is supposed to be really easy. outboarding the springs means mounting them like a ford ranger where they are next to the frame.

Some people think the hp60 is worth its weight in gold. Find one of them dudes and sell it to pay for the chevy front and rear end, and the outboard kit from BTF. Or pay more money to make what you have work, last i checked the flip kits where in the 550-600ish range
