We reciently got a new CJ7. This one is going to to for my dad, it came with a nv4500. When we first got it we were told it needed some new bearings and a rebuild kit because it was flat towed wrong. Now we have started to take it apart and i think it is going to need more then just the bearings and general rebuild kit.

Now my dad is thinking that he is going to go with an automatic, th350 or possibly the 700r4 instead of the nv4500. I was wondering if anyone knows who has the best prices on the adapters for a th350 to dana 300, or if anyone knows of any used ones for sale, (or maybe trade for the NV4500 and all of the parts we have for it.)

If you know of any stores with really good prices, or you have one, or know someone who does who wants to sell it please let me know.

Thanks

How much do you want for the NV4500?

If you want to save money on the adapter I would suggest using a TH700R4 with a New Process adapter that came between the 7ooR4/NP208 combo commonly found in junkyards/on the net between fullsize blazers, trucks and Suburbans during the early to late 80's. Or the same adapter from a 700R4/NP241 combo used in 88'ish to 91'ish trucks of the same type.

The NP208/NP241 transfer cases use the same round 6-bolt pattern as the Dana300 transfer case , so the adapter bolts right up. Now I believe an additional hole has to be drilled in the adapter and possibly the Dana300 to mount it up proper. I have heard it mentioned and have actually been considering that option with the Dana300 swap into my FSJ. If I find the thread I read that on I will post the link here for you to consider.

BTW, if you wanted to use the beefier 3-speed king, the TH400 instead of the TH350 tranny...........the same adapter can be used that is commonly found in early to late 80's GM trucks with the TH400/NP208 combo. Tho the TH400 is longer than the TH350 and 700R4 and that might cause driveline issues in your YJ.

Advance Adapters, Novak and JB conversions all make quality stuff for conversion projects.....but be prepared to pay for it. They are all PROUD of their stuff.

The cheapest route I have been able to root out on swapping the Dana300 behind the TH400 in my FSJ while using quality aftermarket conversion parts would be to retain the 23-spline input on the Dana300 and use the Novak Conversions TH400 to Dana300 adapter kit that comes with the adapter,23-spline output shaft for the TH400 tranny, transmission gasket, stainless steel basemount, seal, fastening hardware and instructions. Novak claims that the 32-spline input upgrade isn't necessary and that they have not had a single reported failure of their 23-spline tranny output shafts. However, the Jeep-side input may be a different story that Novak declined to mention.

I would still need a shifter assembly and possible driveshaft mods....plus the speedometer setup.

anyway, just thought I'd throw some info your way
