View Full Version : Recomendations for Brake Upgrade
1973/DJ-5 Postal Jeep, right-hand drive in need of a brake upgrade. Currently, I have willwood residual pressure valves installed on both of brake lines from master cylinder. I'm looking for performance, high friction brake shoes for all four of the wheel drum brakes.

Disc Conversion
If you look around disk brakes are pretty cheap to add on. This is just my preference cause I dislike always dealing with drums. I dont think anywhere makes high perf. shoes for old jeeps either.

high friction brake shoes on a drum setup will result in too much heat for the drum to dissipate...i hardly think a high performance drum brake is even out there for the DJ
Now...I would suggest the following: http://www.partsmikeparts.com and look into the Drum to Disc conversion...a littel more pricey but safety in my book don't really have a price tag now does it?

AHEM. if you can not find them by searching on your own then I highly doubt anyone will know of high perf drum brakes, which is why disk brakes are reccomended. Its almost bolt on for disk brakes and costs no more than new drums and shoes and slaves will cost.

Did you use the 10lb residual pressure valves, and did it make a noticeable difference? Is your master cylinder on the firewall, or lower?
