When extended out, the front bars protect the vehicle from falling into crevasses in the ice. Not your "weekend warrior" wheeling trip, that's for sure...

They're to keep it from falling through the snow/ice. What it does is catches the truck as it goes through and always for recovery.

those arctic trucks were great, saw that special on the discovery channel about thier buildup and the trek. i like the shot of putting the tire on the rim the best(with lighter fluid).

one more thing, why didn't they use beadlocks? that would have taken care of the low pressure/broken bead thing.
