Was out offroading yesterday in my 88 YJ and my tire came off.

So I broke the axle shaft, knockle, wheel bearing, hub etc.

At my brothers house, is a 86 CJ, it does have manual locking hubs, but I was wondering how compatible the rest is? Would I be able to swap that over?

Thanks

Jeff

I know I would be better to go D44, what options are available (which trucks) would be the closest to a drop in?

The CJ axle is not compatable- just about everything is different.
Your best bet would be to find a replacement YJ axle, or go to a Jeep Wagoneer Dana 44. 1980-91 Grand Waggys have the pumpkin on the driver's side (like the YJ) and are similar in width to the YJ. Stay away from axles that are vacuum actuated, I believe the years are 83-84. If you swap in both front and rear you won't have to deal with a bolt pattern issue. I will be doing this swap in a buddy's YJ later this summer.

The axles are different widths, the springs perchs are wider on the YJ because the frame is wider in the front. Look into the waggy swap. That's what I'd do if I had a YJ.

Doing a Waggy swap will require different wheels. Might be cheaper in the short term to get a JunkYard YJ/TJ/XJ/ZJ axle and rob parts from those
