Hey guys I just wanted to see if there was anybody here that wheels thier KJ.
My KJ saw more trails in 20k miles than most 05 TJ's. Here is a clean pic of my rig.

Which lift do you have? My wife's 02 Libby has Rusty's 2.5" lift with 255/70R-16 BFG AT. She won't wheel it much...still trying to get her to do more though. She has driven in on the beach, just some light wheeling, nuthin' hard.

I don't wheel mine but I do sometimes get L.O.S.T. on the way to the mall and grocery store.

I've got the Frankenlift on it now. Sooner or later when it's paid off it might get a SFA. Any of you around the Ks/Mo border? If you are let me know we can go wheeling.

KJs are O.K. I just wanted to see how foul mouthed you all could get. As a matter of fact my Grandmother drives a KJ. I don't know about a KJ hanging with a TJ Rubicon, but I know for a fact that a stock KJ will walk all over a stock XJ.:smokin:

I have both and stock for stock a kj will keep up with a tj (except and rubicon).
my 05 unlimited has a rear 44 locked and my 02 liberty is getting the 8.25 locked next week so I can have both worlds.
all in all Ill drive the Liberty most ,Better jeep for me.
Liberty driven all over the place is far better than aTJ with lift and tires and never seen any mud

HI All,
First post. Glad to meet you all.
I agree too. While at Moab last year I had my first experience off road with my new KJ. I didn't tackle the famous slick rock. I'm usually not that stupid! Rather, I 4 wheeled my way into very remote places. I was very impressed with the KJ's abilities. It could use more clearance, though.
BTW, I have a lifted, locked front and rear, FI'ed, '89 YJ so I do have a decent reference. The YJ is much better when the going gets really rough. The price is getting the crap beat out of me as sweat runs down my dusty face.
But the Liberty (completely stock with a posi in the rear) is very good. Plus it's air conditioned and very comfy. No one has mentioned the excellent approach and departure angles. I am quite happy especially since it is my daily driver. It will stay mostly stock. When I want to get crazy, I always have my YJ.

I tried that... its sitting on top of 3 feet of snow... I would dig under the KJ and it would sink a couple inches at a time, til the whole thing was on the ground and the headlights were even with the snow. Still had to get a tug.

I'm sorry if this upsets any of you, but KJ's suck. I've never seen one at tellico and probably never will. If I see one going up lower 2, or slick rock when it's raining then I might have some respect for them. As far as I'm concerned the KJ doesn't deserve to be called a jeep. Same as the Grand Cherokee. Both can be built to do something, but then again I've seen a camaro Z28 on 44 boggers.

Let's put it this way man I I follow my buddy's in Rubi's with 35's and 4 or 5 inches of lift and don't have problems. Yea sometimes I have to work a little harder but I'll get there. And no they are not a hardcore rig, like some on here, but it is a very trail worthy rig stock and modified. The way I look at this is some people are biased as I was before I bought one. When I got the KJ it was a decision of $$ not quite what I wanted but it was a jeep and I worked for a Jeep dealer at the time. At first I too laughed at people saying a stock KJ could keep up with a stock TJ. I said "This jeep won't see any rocks." Now I'm lifted w/ MT's and lockers and some more armor coming in the near future. And I laugh at the ones that say KJ can't keep up. I guess you would have to wheel with one to see. Unfortionatly not enough people wheel thier KJ's and the aftermarket hasn't caught up yet. You BUILD a Jeep, whether or not it's a ZJ, XJ, TJ, KJ, WK, XK, CJ. While I might not get to make my KJ as hardcore as I would like due to money I could, just as you could, with enough money. Just my thoughts.

Props to you for wheeling your Jeep - KJ's are Jeeps and are capable.
It's all about driver skill. However, If you are able to follow your friends Rubicon, that's an indication he's not using it to it's capacity more than it being an indication of the capability of a KJ.
I have 30 K into my TJ, beadlocks, locked rear, 35" tires, long arm etc...and I can't keep up with most lifted rubicons because I am open in the front.
I like to see KJ's wheeling...but when I see pics of them wheeling on terrian my TJ would have trouble with, i'll be more impressed. To this point, I have seen a lot of cool pics, but nothing i'd really consider an obsticle that i'd have trouble with.
That being said - you can drive you jeep off the trail and home in a lot more comfort than I can, much better mileage, carry more, etc. There is a lot to be said for that.

very well put. And to really clarify there are things that the KJ can't do because of the tire size. No I can't scale the 8' wall like some but I'll be the first to admit that it's not a hardcore trail rig. It needs a SFA and the ablity to wear 33's+ before it would even be considered a hardcore rig. But there has been times that my buddys TJ w/ 33" MT/R's and 4" of lift has had trouble and I walked up it and vice/versa. I just think that it don't matter what you wheel so long as you wheel it. Jeeps are just adult legos.

My gun is bigger than your gun. My daddy can beat your daddy up. I can chug beer faster than you can. I make more money than you. My weiner is bigger than your weiner......Blah Blah Blah!!!
If you have to be a jackass snob because you have a CJ, Rubi, TJ,YJ, whatever J, then you are just a jackass. Grow up and be a real man and be nice about other people's off-road vehicles.
Your YJ/TJ/Rubi/whatever J is a piece of crap compared to a Unimog. Now go cry to the Unimog owners. Just enjoy off-roading, enjoy having others that off-road their vehicles, and quit being jackasses.
If doing a trail was easy, would it be fun? Enough said.
I just did Eagle Rock last Sunday and watched XJ's struggle through the trail. Time for you TJ owners to claim XJ's aren't Jeeps either. While you're at it, those vehicles with the square headlights....time for you to damn them also because, that's just un-Jeep of those vehicles.
Stock for stock, all of the Jeeps can do trails (except the Compass and Patriot). So what if the Rubi can do more. It costs a lot more and was specifically designed to do more, but doesn't mean it is any better than the other Jeep models. If you own a TJ, then well, your TJ sucks compared to a Rubi regardless if your TJ has 37" tires and a 7" lift. It doesn't belong on the trails with Rubi's. It isn't a real Jeep. Again....Blah blah blah! Get over it and grow up. Quit being a Jeep snob.
Oh, and yes, mine is bigger..........
PS: Brad Shah! Have you done Escalator, in Moab, in your vehicle and made it through unscathed? A KJ has done it with those tiny 31's and 2 1/2" lift....unscathed. A TJ in front of him with big 34's or 35's fell on its side.

Hey everyone!
I have seen some of you trash KJ owners with your flamin'. Don't you realize that the next generation Wrangler will be powered by KJ motor- V-6 engine! What happened to legendary reliable AMC I-6 engine??? These V-6 engines came out of Chrysler family mini-vans and were redesigned to power the KJ as well as 2007 Wrangler. But they have more horsepower and torque than I-6. I am not sure if it is a good thing or not. I don't what the hell those Chrysler engineers were doing? Under the gun of Nazi owner (Dahlmer-Chrysler)? Also I heard that they might offer HEMI engine as an option...hmmm..HEMI in Wrangler...ought be interesting to see how those HEMi handle in all kinds of terrians.
Oh, well..next ten years should be very interesting one for the Wrangler wheelin world...

any "jeep" would have to be, "built to do something" in order to make those trails.
do what anyone on this form does to thier cj or yj to a kj (axles, lockers, shafts, custom suspension, etc) and it will perform just the same.

give credit where credit is due. These KJs can run some hardcore trails.. yeah no buggy trails but how many TJs with 35's can do those too?
The difference is they don't have as much articulation and they have to use the rock sliders and skids plates underneath but all in all they can work over the same obstacles as other trucks can proof in the pics.
Point is, give props.
Now, if Chrysler would offer a "rubicon" edition KJ with a SFA that would change it all... but they won't especially coming out with the 4 door wrangler which is all good. All in all Jeep is still one of the best true 4x4 available new. Hopefully, they won't forgot thier roots and will always make the tried and true models.

and torque ..
a KJ engine may make more torque than the 4.0L, but it's not at all useable on the trail. my torque is at 2K. Theirs is at 4.5-5K.
4wdParakeet

There is plenty of low end torque in the KJ. With the transfer case it has in it there is enough low end torque to get the job done.
