I have a stock 1975 Cruiser that I would like to convert to electronic ignition. Anyone have any suggestions on the best way to do this without spending a lot of $$$

Grab a GM 6cyl vacuum advance HEI and put your Toyota drive gear on it.
Do a search, tons of info on this...

Most vendors only list the kit for the 73 and older dizzies. I have the unit for the 75-77 factory distributors as well.:grinpimp:

Thanks for the plug guys!

The HEI swap is not as easy as just swapping gears........
Pertronix is the easiest by far. I've run the pertronix setup in two of my crusiers and it works flawlessly. Heck of alot better than goofing with points...

Pertronix with no doubt and get the coil for it also.

Does usign the pertronix allow you to loose the ignitor as well?

My ignitor went bad (bad transistors, about $12 worth of parts to fix it) but if I can go full electronic ignition I would like that.

Thanks!

I pulled a HEI out of a 6 cylinder Chevy from a wrecking yard..swapped gears...wired up a Bosch relay to get more juice to it...plugged in new wires..it started right up and ran great..timed it by ear...Never even changed the cap or rotor....I ran it that way for a couple of years..Never had a problem!...Cost? about $50 bucks..including relay, vacum hose and new wires....just my .02

the pertronix is a stand alone pick-up/ignitor built into one part. it screws into the dist in place of the points. the real beauty is that if it ever does fail, (which they never do unless you leave them sit with the key on for a couple days, and now the newer ones are protected even from that) you can remove it and install the points to get home on.. they do need a full 12volts all the time to work correctly.... two wire hookup. red wire=12volts hot with key, black wire= negative side of the coil.. thats it.. they make a VERY hot spark even on a stock coil...

Thanks for the info. everyone! I think I will go with the Pertronix setup. I like the idea of getting rid of the ignitor as well. Mark I sent you a pm. Let me know how to go about ordering the parts I need.

Thanks,

Scott
