anyone notice an improvement in gas mileage by removing the front driveshaft? It's my DD and I don't feel like dumping $$ into swapping to a part time tcase unless I could find one cheap but I don't see myself needed 4wheel drive for a bit..
On the topic I am sure it has been said a million times but what app 231 would I need to do the swap - is there a bolt on one or will I have to swap inputs from my tcase into the 231?
TIA

what year is it? I think post 96 you can remove the front drive shaft. but on the earlier ones if you do the fluid will come out, than your screwed.

it's a 93, guess there is one way to find out if the fluid will come out ;)
there has to be a post here on swapping to a part time case, could someone with search abilities do me a favor.. ;)

93-94 with 249 and no front driveshaft will ruin the vc.
95 up it's ok.
you need a 23 spline 231 to bolt in, or swap your input into a 21 spline 231.
better keep the shaft in so you don't lose your driveshaft fluid. :flipoff2:

well, one more thing - the pitch changed on the input gear at some point, i forget the year. i think around 90? you should confirm that.
the input will fit in, but then be noisy as hell.
