Looking to buy an ironworker soon, definitely long overdue. We've been doing all our brackets and mounting plates by slicing with the bandsaw and drilling holes in the drill press. It's faily quick since we use fixtures for drilling but damn when you have a lot of pieces you realize how much quicker a punch and shear would go.

Anyways, definitely need something 40 ton, minimum 12" shear, 220 single phase. Scotchman 4014 so far is looking like a good bet. Anyone have experience using other brands or have any recommendations?

I forget the brand but if you don't need 220 or if 110 would be easier for you I've seen 40 and 45 ton 110 machines. Something to think about if it matters to you.

Scotchman is a good brand, made in South Dakota. You may want to check out Trick-Tools; they carry another brands and are located in IA.

I have used the Mubea and the Pirahna. I liked the Pirahna a lot. Wish I had the coin.

another vote for the Pirahna line. I've used about 4 different ones and they a pleasure to use. Did not care for the two Scotchman's that I had to use

I use one of the Edwards setups. I sure wish I could get one at home. I use the 50 ton version. Punch, shear, bend, nibble, and offset bend. The attachments make it tough to afford, but worth every penny. Of course I don't punch with it since I have access to 3 strippit punch machines, and also a hydralic bender.
