I got a good deal on a new 60 gallon oil-free pump Craftsman Profesional compressor. Its about a year old, and spent about 4 1/2 monthe without use while I was in Iraq last time. Now I seem to be having some trouble with it. It doesnt seem to be the pump, that works fine, but the switch is having problems. When plugged in, the pump will fill to max then shut off, and then the pressure relief blows, and slowly lets out air till zero, or till I turn the power switch to off. Then when I turn it back on, or let it get to around below 90, the motor kicks back on, but it sounds like its locked up. So I have to turn off and unplug it. Im not sure whats going on.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Josh

Lol Sounds Like what happend with mine. I have a 30 gal. and it would do the same thing and still leaks the air(I'm too lazy to fix that) and I got the thing free from work a year ago and they said it needed a new motor or compressor. So I took it thinking I'd replace the broken piece but I did neither. It sat for 6 months and then I pluged it in and it worked perfect!
I took the cover off to start to figure out witch piece was bad and I turned the "fan" that sticks out and with the switch on. When I spun the "fan" it automatically took off and filled the tank up and I have since left the cover off and spin the "fan" when it locks up again.

I am having the same problem. I know not what 'fan' you speak of. I can't figure this damn thing out. About to replace the whole pump head for a 2 stage-er! :D Can you detail out this 'fan'?

I had one for a little while. The bottom drain was never able to close all the way, and shortly after the head blew off of the top of the compressor. Piece of shit, never again. Crapsman has been pissing me off lately with the quality of their products. The only reason why I still buy them is that I like breaking their crap and returning for new.

Smae problem I had. Word for Word. I bought mine new 3 years ago and had light use until last summer when I started work on the jeep. Went out one day turned it on and it filled up with air and the exhausted it all out. I pulled off the cover that the switch was housed in. I messed with it for about a week and got pissed and looked for my owners manual. In the manual it has a part number for the whole switch. I called Sears parts order number and ordered it up. I think it was about $60 shipped to me. I pulled the old one off and wired the new box just like the old one and it solved the problem. Seems the switch and valves are all in one. Mine was the 25 or 30 gallon black color 2 stage 175PSI model. Works good up until I start using a 5 inch disc sander. Hope this helps.:D

If you take all the covers off the comperssor and motor you will see the "fan" kinda sorta.... Its a circle that is about 4 inches deep and has small fins going from the front to back and the back wall is solid and bolts to what I would call the crank for the two pistons in the motor.

IWhen plugged in, the pump will fill to max then shut off, and then the pressure relief blows,
The high limit of the pressure switch is set above the pop off pressure of the relief valve. Adjust one of them.
Then when I turn it back on, or let it get to around below 90, the motor kicks back on, but it sounds like its locked up.
The unloader isn't venting the inlet line from the compressor to the tank. There are two types of unloaders: ones with a vent tube to the pressure switch which vents the line from the inlet check valve and ones that are built in to the inlet check valve. Make sure that the unloader isn't stuck or plugged.

I still cant figure out whats wrong. When the tank has air in it, and I turn the switch from auto to O, air starts blowing out where the copper tube enters the switch box. And it still acts locked up sometimes.

Yea its that damn valve on the switch box that the copper tube goes into. Replaced mine and it fixed the problem.

Jeep guy, I see above where you say you replaces the whole switch box, right?
Cna you only get the whole thing or can that valve be gotten from sears or some other tooling source?
Thanks for the hand,
Josh
