My fiance and I are starting to build on her Jeep, and she's wanting to run a 440, I have a Sm420 from a old Chevy.....what company would have a bell housing for that swap, or are we gonna be better off fabbing one up ourselves?? I'm gonna call Advance tomorrow and see what they tell me, but with it not being a highly done swap it's hard to find info. It's gonna be running in a Jeep CJ. Thanks.:flipoff2: :flipoff2:

I would go with what came in a Dodge P/U!! Any adapter is going to cost ya a bunch of $$$.
The New Process 435 came in 1963 to 1985 Dodge trucks and has a 6.68 First gear.
BTW it's nice to see someone swaping in real power!

Ok, called AA and Novak, neither has a bellhousing for a 440.....with sucks. So I guess now i'm thinking I could get a 440 bellhousing a make a braket that would mate the 440 to the 420.....but my concern is the lenght of shaft from the 420 going into the 440......also did a 44o ever have a manual tranny behind it....if not i'm guessing i'm gonna have problems with pilot bushings or bearings whatever there called :flipoff2: oh well, if any one can share some advice let me know......i'm gonna give Sam's Offroad a shout and see what they can tell me. And this is just the beginng....FUN!!!:rasta:

And why are you married to the 420?
Your making a ton of work for yourself.

did you not read what old scout said about the 435 ??
you could likely get a bellhousing and 435 for 1/2 what the bellhousing to mate the 440 to the 420 will cost ...

I heard what he wrote, and it's an option of course......but at the same time this is my fiance's Jeep.....i'm just helping find info for her, and also we already had the 420 so I thought I would see what was out there before I go another route. Her quote to me also is "Just because there are no parts for it doesn't mean it can't be done." You try and fight with that! :flipoff2:
