I just hooked up an MSD 6A on my '86 half ton w/360. It cranks but no start. Is there any tricks with that magnetic pick-up that would make it not fire. Is there any harness wires that still need to be hooked up or what? I'm two weeks from Moab and I'm desperate

Try swapping the two magnetic pick up wires. This may do the trick for you.

Just curious, how did it tap into your stock system? I have the same box on my 96. I cut the 2 wires going to my coil and put them into the box. Was yours the same? Let me know if switching the wires did not help

In the older dodges you can use the magnetic pick up in the distributor and bypass the original ignition box and wiring altogether. I am making the assumption that this is how he has it hooked up...
The way you suggested is also an option but you would want to make sure that you are sourcing a good 12v ignition source to turn the MSD on rather than one that goes through the ballast resistor. This also requires the stock ignition module to be good to start with.

Thanks for all the fine suggestions. But i said fuck it and went with a total msd ignition, box, coil, distributor. I'm an MSD vendor so I get a sweet discount.
