okay I just snagged an 86 1 ton minus the front 60 (ten bolt now)
it's got a 454 th400 205 10 bolt 14 bolt.
I'm planning on towing w/ it. I want about a 4" lift and am not sure what FRONT springs to buy. I want it to ride good but still deal w/ load if needed.
I figure 4" springs of sorts and make some longer shackles.
Anyone got a good hook up w/ a friend who has some used ones or something? as well as a 4" steering arm, 8 lug 16.5x10's and some 35's? :D

I recently bought an 85 K30 with the same stuff as yours but,
with the front 60.
I priced out an 8" lift from Superlift with arm and shocks for
$1200.00
The 4" lift you want to buy should be cheap enough if
you buy a kit with rear lift blocks. If you do that you can
keep the overload top spring set up and not worry about
sagging when towing.
Or you could do a 3" body lift and still retain that overload
set up in the rear.
4" lift kits are cheap and plentiful. Good luck with your new rig.

May as well go for a 6 inch while you are under there. Just about the same price and not much else is changed. You don't need to run 16.5 inch rims with a 10 bolt.
As for Ride Quality I love my 6" Skyjacker Softride with Ranch RS 5000 shocks. It cost about 550 bucks. I have heard good things about BDS springs also.
P.S. My 35" Dunlop Radials Rub fenders with a 6 inch on 10 inch rims when flexing. 4 inch lifts usually require some fender trimming to run 35's if it flexes any.
Good luck. Sounds like a stout rig.

I got a 4" arm you could have for $20 + shipping. Shoot me an email if you want it.

Sweet. I'm not scared to cut. ;) I had a 74 chevy w/ a sm 383 sm 465 205 w/ 40's and only 7" of lift :D
I was mainly wondering if the big block and extra weight of the frame and what not actually make a difference w/ ride height of 4" springs.
I don;t really want to go 6" because it's only for towing and I'd like to keep it down. I may just get 33's...or a 16" rim equiv. I want a load range D or E all terrain or street only.
Can I run 15" rims on the 8 lug 10 bot and 14 w/ out grinding? what back spacing as well? thanks.

C14 with 15" is no problem at all with steel wheels. I’m running 4.125 B.S. with no problems on the large 1 ton drums. On the C10 front, it will hit the calipers if you have much backspacing. I've heard people claim that 3-3.5 B.S. steel wheels fit over the 8 lug C10 and D44 fronts with little or no grinding. And, I'm told that with 2.5 B.S. you can slide them on a D60 with no grinding. My wheels took a bit of grinding on the D60. I guess it depends on the wheels. I’m sure you know that 15” aluminum will never fit on either end, but I’ll throw that out just for the readers who may not.
As for the tires. I would run 33" BFG AT/KOs on a tow rig and stock springs, cutting a little as required. I'm thinking of selling my Ram and getting a late 80s/early 90's K30/V30 SRW TBI 454 crew cab for a tow rig. For me that me that means lots of spare parts to "borrow" from the tow rig if needed. :smokin:

good call.
I may have the chance to get free 4.10's but I think 33's and 373's will be better on the highway. The motor has some serious balls for some reason and all it has is flowmasters.

I have a set of 35 x12.5x16.5 BFG mudders old style, with less than 2000 miles on them. No trail rash on them about 200 miles of total offroad time on them. These tires are basically new with 90% treadlife remaining on them. They are mounted on chrome/black steel wheels. The wheels are 8lug 16.5's I bought them to replace the ones that were stolen off my rig last year. Death to theives!! :flipoff2:
One catch , they won't be available until my beadlocks and 38 swampers arrive. If you can wait they will probably be availaable mid May.
I also will be pulling my 4" lift and installing an 8" again not available till mid May. All my parts arrive in next two weeks then let the workin party begin!::D
My advice on lifts is spend the extra few bucks and get away from lifts with blocks. Also I don't recommend body lifts as well. Just my opinion:smokin:
