View Full Version : THM-400 - sounds like a machine gun?

Just bought a new CUCV strait from DRMO (the military).

I finally got it started. 6.2L diesel sounds very strong in park, but as soon as I engage reverse or drive and actually rev the motor, even a little bit, I hear a rhythmic ticking sound - it sounds like an automatic bb gun (machine gun)....

I checked fluid and it was well below the "add 1 quart" level so it looked like it needed 2 quarts to the FULL LINE - but it had only been running for 4 minutes so I only added 1 quart leaving froom for heat expansion.

It seemed to help until under a load or going up/down a STEEP hill?

Any ideas how to diagnose this better? Or hints as to what it may be? Torque converter is not hitting anything?
