What do you guys think? Kind of have the feeling that 35's were about the limit for the stock axles, and even that may be pushing it. It's about time to get a new set of tires, and the price difference between the two seems to be getting smaller. I was also waitng for the verdict on the super birfs which may raise the bar a little.
Thanks.

Depends on how you hard you're going to wheel. I've been running 35's on stock FJ60 axles for 2+ years without any problems, but I don't do any extreme stuff. Even with 37's, it will depend on what kind of terrain you wheel on, driving style, weight of the truck, etc...
I've seen people *HAMMERING* Land Cruisers with 35's and 36's on stock axles with good results. They break birfields, no doubt, but the notion that the axles *must* be upgraded on a Toyota Land Cruiser usually applies to extreme hard-core, bigger tires (38+) and/or very aggressive driving styles.
Sometimes an axle upgrade is driven by factors other than just breakage. For example, a lot of people want to take advantage of wider axles for additional stability, or want lower gears/more options than one can get with a Cruiser axle.

With the exception of the birfields, I think they'll hold up just fine with 37's, those tires are very light weight.

You'll be OK. Terry Moorefield, the guy who did alot of the custom stuff on my FJ, runs 37" boggers on beadlocks...quite a heavy combo. His is a SBC/465/205 combo, stock gears, but locked. He never told me of any breaking axle stories.
37 MT/R's are on my list after the SO/SR, and he didn't warn me about the combo at all.. Quite the opposite. I (for the most part) have a light foot, though..
