: SB Chevy Swap Into Scout
ScoutsHonor 04-14-2002, 09:45 PM Just wondering... what all did you guys that swapped a SB Chevy into your Scouts hafta do motor-mount wise? I pulled my 350 TPI tonight to get it ready to sit in the Ducky... got to looking at it, and am trying to decide the best way to make it fit... obviously fabrication is involved...
Did you guys move the motor mounts back any? Seems to me that the front pulley sticks out a little bit more than an International SB... might be wrong though.... might just be this particular motor. The only thing that concerns me is the lack of an engine driven fan... having to use electric fans - and the clearance between the radiator and the motor on the Scout.
Any thoughts/suggestions/information will be greatly appreciated!

troutbum 04-15-2002, 03:20 PM all that work and still just a small block :flipoff2:
Brawler 04-15-2002, 04:03 PM Plenty of power when i need it. And it wasn't that much work at all. May go 454 later on but for now it'll suffice.

This makes no sence to me.
Look at all the money your spending twice on you axle upgrades! All the bucks you dropped into your 44's would of been better spent on Beef from the get go.
Do it once, Do it right.

If i did that then you guys would have no one to thrash on. I'm happy with the d44's but i had never seen the d60/14 in action till recently and i was really impressed. I'm new to wheelin and have lots of learning to do and i'll chalk this up to a one time learning experience. But yes, you are right old scout.
troutbum 04-16-2002, 09:02 AM mmmmm...big block....try 515 ft/lbs and then tell me a SBC has plenty of power....:D
ScoutsHonor 04-16-2002, 09:03 AM But hes also only running 35s right Brawler? I ran 35x14.50 Boggers on my Scout with D44s... never had a problem.... the only thing I ever broke was a hub.... spun the wheel bearings.
44s are more than sufficient for that... I put my D60 & 14 Bolt in for width, and also because I knew I was gonna run 44" Tires. If I had it to do all over again... I'd probly go with a D70 in the rear.... simply because the damn 14 bolt is a serious rockdragger. I'm about to shave the hell out of it.... we'll see how that works out...

Will be running 39.5 boggers, and that is another reason for the axle swap. Broke both front axles at the same time and broke the short side at the splines and u-joint. Have new spare thanks to Cornfedred, but change is good. Probably only gonna cost me 3500 or so. And that will be the last change........( yeah right!)
Scout Dude 04-16-2002, 01:03 PM You guy have WAY TOO MUCH testosterone...
Small block is fine...
heck, my tired 305 with 4.10's in the diffs and 36's was enough power to light'em up all the way til 3rd gear...and it made great lane changes too!
In all reality, do you really need a big block...Nope..not in my opinion.:flipoff2:

I'll be 128 to 1 this year...I don't need that much torque:flipoff2:
troutbum 04-16-2002, 06:11 PM if it were about needs, I wouldn't be driving this cash suckin Scout, you would see me driving a metro:flipoff2: but if you are going to go to all the work to swap yer mill, it ain't worth it unless it is a BB...:D :D drop a grand and how many hours to end up with an engine that makes around the same torque and will need a rebuild twice as often as the IH mill you dumped.
:flipoff2: come awn don't let the power scare you!:flipoff2:
