View Full Version : Gas Powered Air Compressor Question
I picked up one of those dewalt style wheel barrel compressors for a whopping 50 bucks, after cleaning the carb and changing the plug the motor runs great. The air hose that goes out of the compressor and into the tank was missing when I got it so I went to a bobcat shop and got a hydro hose made to fit. So anyway the air that comes out of the compressor is pretty hot and the hydro hose gets pretty damn warm as well.
Is the air from the compressor supose to be that hot? If so can the hose I bought handle the temp?

The air, fresh off the compressor, can be around 200 degrees. Usually the line from the compressor to the tank is copper with cooling fins. I don't know if your line will handle the heat or not. I'd recommend changing it to copper.

Is that what came with yours or did you add it? From what I can see in pics it looks like its supose to be a braided line.

That's not braid you're seeing. That's finned copper tubing.
When air is compressed, it heats up, it gets HOT.
250* would sound more like it (boils spit :D).
A coil (loop it in a circle) of copper tubing will work best. It'll flex a little (with the coil vs. straight run) and it'll cool the air some.
I don't think the rubber hose will hold up..
opps I was talking about the pic on the dewalt website was a braided line. Should I order a replacement or is that something that can be made from stuff at a plumbing supply store?
will pipe dope work to seal the fittings or will that burn off?
