I'm using the PTO on my SM420 for onboard air. No room under the hood for a York, so it is going under the bed and drivien off the PTO output.

why not use it for a PTO winch?
military vehicles use it for good reason.

ya but i would still like to use my winch when my jeep is on it's side. remember you have to run your truck to use a hydrolic winch

a PTO is not a hydraulic winch; it's a mechanical one.
your'e right about when you are on your side, but
you do'nt choose a winch to deal with the rare situations
but with the common ones.
i say that if you have the option - a PTO winch
is better.

i would steer clear of the PTO winch because of its obvious drawbacks. PTO driven on board air would be tight....

Any of you that are using the PTO takeoffs for the onboard air care to elaborate on how your doing this? I have everything I would need but the pump. I just assumed the PTO drive turned to slow to use it this way. Thanks!!
