ok i may be on crack or soemthing but i cant seem to get the drum off the hub.
whats the trick, how do they come apart etc. i searched and cant seem to find what im looking for. im under the assumption taht you need to pound out the studs and pop it off but i cant get the studs out. ive wacked them with a 8 lb sledge with no luck. ive given up for the moment because i hit the hub a couple times and messed up the edge of the surface where the shaft is bolted. i dont want to mess anything up any further.
thanks guys pics would help too.

Yup. You pound out the studs and they then come apart.

don't hit the hub! oh wait i guess you've figured that out:flipoff2: . use a punch on the end of the lugs. i use one of my home made punches out of just a piece of scrap round stock. i've even used a piece of rebar. anyway i grind the end to somewhat of a point so i can hit the lug without messing up the threads. this will also prevent you from hitting the hub.....hopefully. sometimes if they have never been removed they can be a pita so soak them down with some good penetraiting oil, then have at them. good luck

If you put a few little dings in the hub you'll be OK, just don't nail the areas where the bolts thread in. If the little meatal gasket won't seal it up well than add a little RTV. I hit mine a few times and dinged it so you're not alone
Wow, I can't imagine the studs not budging after a wack from an 8lb sledge:eek:
Couple taps from my 3lb and they fall out (studs). You'll definately need to replace the studs afterwards, b/c I imagine them being mangled to hell from taking the poundings from the 8lber.
But like other said, all you need to do is remove the studs and tap lightly on the side of the hub and it'll come off the drum...

I oce had a FF D60 that WOULD NOT give up the studs, including repeated beatings with a 5lb hammer, 2 cans of PB Blaster, and several rounds na 12 ton press that acutally deflected under load and did not loosen the studs. ouch. time for the torch.

yeah, i would try a shop press. I bet my 20 ton could remove those MFers ;) Other than that, just keep soaking them day after day with Penetrating oil, they will eventually give up...
