Yesterday I was playing on the rocks in a spillway adjacent to my property when my FJ40 decided it wanted to upgrade to one of those newfangled "SPLIT" transfer cases:mad:

Sooo, does anyone have a late-model ('70-73) J-30 transfer case they want to sell? I could use the case from my '65 FJ45, but would prefer one of the newer versions, as I believe they are somewhat stronger.

How long can you wait for it???

I am replacing mine with Mini tcases but need it for a while still ;)

I might be able to clean out a 4 speed case that you could swap the gears into a bit quicker though..

Are the internals good? I have a early('74) 4 spd bare case that I am not using. It is before the wider gear style of the late 1 piece 4 spd cases, so IIRC it is the same width as the late J30 cases...

I can get it this week(out at the ranch)

An empty 9/73 - 4/75 (transition) case is a very attractive option for me. I haven't taken the broken case apart yet, but from what I can see through the big hole, the internals appear to be fine. I also have another complete set of J30 gears.

i've got a case (not sure what year) that's missing the mechanical 4wd linkage (bolts to the front output housing) but looks ok besides that. if you want it, it's yours! i'll try to e-mail you a pic if you're interested. let me know.:D

it would cost 200$ but would be the newer
softer case.
