Does anyone have a good site/info concerning the 99 discovery 1 axles.
What size are they for starters??
What is the strength like I am familure with Dana and Ford 9inch comparisions,
Spline count?
The diff in the axle does it have a limited slip?? Or do stock models come with open diff's only.
What is the weakest part of the driveline? What is prone to break.
There are 235/70/R16 tires on now- What is the max tire size I can put on without the OME lift?/With the Lift? :)

the axles are very weak. they are 1.2? diamter 24 spline. the ring gear is the size of a dana 30. the front axle CV joints are EXTREMELY weak, much weaker than a toyota birfield. weaker even than a D30 u joint im willing to bet. open diffs only, lockers available are detroit, truetrac, ARB, Jack MacNamara, and thats about it.

as to tire clearance, the OME lift will allow you to fit anything up to a 235/85 with a very slight amount of trimming on the rear door. 265/75 is possible with a little more trimming.

stock you could fit a 245/75 with some trimming.

of course you could fit a lot larger of a tire in either scenario if you werent afraid of trimming. but that is somewhat of uncharted territory as almost no discovery owners trim their fenders. they are all pussies. whatever you do, do not go to www.discoweb.org, you will only walk away a dumber human being and mad as all hell. trust me i know :p

oops weakest point of the entire drivetrain is def. the front CVs. then the axle shafts.

yeah but it went for too much $$$ for me. also it was passenger side diff :(

but thats ok i have a line on a rusted out 79 F350 for $500 in my neck of the woods :D
