As of 1.1.03 you'll need to be 101 db or quieter on all public lands. If not its a $120 ticket. Stonyford rangers are testing and my friends WR400 w/ a white brothers pipe was nettin 110db. Now the only problem is that there are only 2-3 pipes that will save your ass. If you have a big 4 stroke then the FMF Q series is your only hope.
Ranger Matt also informed us that the forest service is coordinating with DMV to pull the Dual Sport Status of a lot of current bikes. There is some CARB reg. that they are using to pull your current liscence and issue back a green sticker. They will be crossrefrencing your year/ bike stats and reissuing red/ green stickers. The only dual sport bikes that will be allowed are factory dual sports...no more baja design add on kit dual sport bikes will be legal.

The taking of your plate is only for bikes that "should" have a red sticker but now have a Califorina plate on it..... so 96 and older will be fine :D
And remember that a Vermont plate on a bike that should be a red sticker is fine.............
this blows, i guess i wont be trading in for a 4 stroke if i cant have a good pipe:mad: and i REALLY hope they dont take away my green sticker on my 01 kx250 otherwise im gonna have to register it in vermont and i bet thats a PITA:( every other sport has the stickers so DIRTBIKING IS NOT A CRIME!! :D
id be interested to see how loud my kx is with the fmf and spark arrestor.

Yeah but it is all in the VIN, 6th or 8th digit? gives it away. I'm worried that one day it will come down to the Rangers, looking at your VIN and saying I don't care what color your sticker is, or where your bike is registered, you don't meet EPA bla, bla, bla and you aint riding here during the closure periods. I guess we need to move out of CA:smokin:

This is what it has come too!!! DMV told the rangers to take care of it, and they know exactly what color sticker your VIN # designates. The ranger at Stonyford took one look at my friends Dual sported WR, glanced at the VIN and said he'll be giving up his liscence plates soon.

I was just at the DMV and was told they just straightened out their database and will be re-issuing red stickers to (wrongly issued) green sticker bikes within the year. DAM FAWKERS.
FYI...I ride Foresthill, Mammoth, Georgetown, Prosser...the rangers are cool for the most part. They care less about noise regs or even red sticker riding limitations. My DRZ barks at ~115 DB and I dont ever get screwed with! To hell with Stonyford if I have to put a tampon in my pipe!!!:flipoff2:

:D worked for me :D
It's the 8th digit of the vin on 1998 and newer bikes. If the digit is a 3 or a C, the bike doesn't meet the emissions requirements.
Loppy is right. We need John Wayne back....
