: Exhaust manifold selection

I'm going to be replacing the exhaust manifolds on an engine swap using an 88 Camaro 5.0L TBI.

I've narrowed my criteria to the following:
- must be center dump
- must have air ports
- must NOT be a header

I know the "center dump" or "rams horn" style manifold is available. But I've not been able to track down a specific application for ones that have the air ports and one place I know sells them for about $260(might be $360)

The other "option" I've seen is a Sanderson QP1000. It is part of their cast quiet series... but I'm chocking on the price and I'm not sure on the smog legal status.

Does anyone have a recommendation? Or at the least a make/model to find a center dump with air ports?

And yes, I've done a search here and not found anything useful :p

Lil'John,
I have a set of Ram's horn manifolds that have the air ports and I believe that they came off a early eighties model Chevy truck. I didn't need the air ports, so I just plugged it with brass pipe plugs. The only problem with these, is that they are only a 2" collector and not 2 1/2" like the corvette ram's horn manifolds. I also believe that some corvette came with the ram's horn that had air ports as well, but I don't know the years that they came in. If you can't find a set near to you, mine are just sitting in a box in my garage. I would be willing to sell them if you wanted. Just let me know if you are interested or not. Personally, I would look for a set out of a corvette, just for the bigger collector. HTH Thomas

Check out a mid eighties corvette. Stainless with center dump and air injection. Its been a while, and I don't remember what I used for a search term, but a while back I scored 2 sets offf ebay for less than $45.00 a set, and that was with shipping.
Also I believe some one posted here about having trouble with these burning plug wires. They come with a sheet metal heat shield, you could leave on or strip as I did. I sold one set to a buddy for a street rod, he just welded them up, sandblasted them, and now is going to try some of Eastwoods new high temp powdercoat. Should look good for those who like a little flash. Andy ;)

Just bringing this back up for you John. Maybe someone else will have some input on what years these type of center dump manifolds came in.

I bought a set of center dump ones for mine off a '93 corvette LT-1. My dad has a '95 LT-1 in his '55 Chevy out of a firebird and it has ones that would work as well, they're not quite center dump but dump down instead of back. Both have air inlets.

the Sanderson QP series manifolds DO NOT have any air ports
in them..... they are cast-steel, and you COULD drill and tap them
for air ports, but if you did an "Uh-Oh" you would be pretty
pissed about it due to the price. I have a freind with a set, but I
don't think he's gonna use them. And if he doesn't, I'm buying them.

check Ebay, or the swap meets for them..........
