New to the site, but was recommended by a good buddy who is hardcore 4X4. I've been having problems with my stock diff cover and this deffinately looks like the cure. I have a Ford 8.8 rear end. Can you PM a quote for your 8.8 diff cover, drain, and any other littel extra options you may have. My area code is 36527. Thanks.

It was good talking to you Ryan, sorry our phones are so busy, and the VM fills up 5 times a day!

The basic 8.8 is $110, the DP & Countersunk hole options are $5 each so $120, shipping is all of $9.40 so the grand total would be 129.40. But then you can take off the PBB10 discount (10% = $12) so it would be $117.40

thanks dan, looks great, I got the welds ground down that that cover i picked up today and it came out great.:D

I knew it was the one for you, we sell a ton of parts to our competitors employees, even if they work for 4wheel parts:p

You said the 14 bolt does not come with a fill plug, how do you fill it?

Most of you know we moved 70 miles last month for many reasons but the size of the space was the primary reason. We have been shipping 70-90 boxes daily at the same time we have been adding a second floor, well we finally finished the deck and wiring tonite, now just the new bathroom upstairs and everything can get completely back to normal......ish!

So the moral of the story is don't be normal! 1/4" thick is normal, 3/8" is for those of us that need it!

Do these come with hardware?

We have found the countersunk bolts can be hard to find in many parts of the country so we do provide those. For the non-countersunk holes we do not provide the bolts because many people have differences of opinion on which to use, Grade 5 or grade 8, I would recommend grade 5 bolts for the superior impact resistance.

BTW, the Countersunk option is only $5 and you get $3 worth of bolts.

Whenever you bend thick steel you face challenges, you do the math, do the prototypes, everything just right......and perhaps a software glitch spoils the 30 shells you just laser cut.......I have seen my share of challenges.

They are for SRW axles, the site says that, the DRW have a larger offset and we don't offer them yet? You spent $320 and got a $32 discount on top of that? I will be happy to refund the cost of the Ford D70 brackets, all you have to do is tell me.......We would not leave you hanging with something that dosen't work for you. I will modify the add here if it implies they work on Duals.

This is the description on the website: This is the bracket for your Ford D70 & D70U, it actually fits! I developed these after the success of our 14 Bolt brackets and seeing what was available on the market and the problems associated with the others. The D70 was used by all of the Big 3 automakers at one time or another and they all had different uses and designs specifically for them. These are for a Ford D70 or D70U only! These are for SRW axles, DRW axles have a different offset. Both the Dodge and GM have different flanges and tube diameters. We have actually identified 4 different flanges in use and 3 tube diameters. How can 1 size fit all? So Please, don't buy the 1 size fits all available out there, you may get lucky and have it work but the odds are against you.....These also use the '75 Chevy 3/4 Ton Front Rotors and Calipers and those really cost peanuts but the rotor will need the throat opened by ~3/16".

Booger Weldz
06-20-2007, 06:04 AM
thanks for the refund, sorry i didnt read the ad on your site, only the one on this page... your brackets are quality, especially the accuracy of the bends, but the holes suck, someone even took the time to bump a few with a soft pad but never took the time to clean the diameter out, if you want a pic ive still got a few to ream out

We have always made our holes 1/100 larger than the bolt required so as to not be sloppy but fit the bolt in? Most companies make theirs substantially larger but they end up sloppy.

im not talking about the diameter of the holes, im talking about the slag, whip outs and kerf marks in the holes...

how soon can i expect the rest of the order>?

I went through 2 shelves filled with the brackets you bought and I am kind of at a loss? Slag, when found on Laser cut parts is extremely small because 99% of the steel is vaporized in the process and the heat moves so fast it gives the surrounding area too little time to heat up. The kerf marks are normal and should look like very, very small bandsaw marks. What is whip out?

Booger Weldz
06-22-2007, 02:17 PM
sorry, bad pic but hte arrows show the oblong shape of the hole and the right hand arrow points to an uncut chunk or ball of slag in the hole

sorry i was being a bitch about having to ream the holes, the brackets you sold me are working out EXCELLENT for what i needed, id buy from you again without hesitation

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/FJ40%20cover%20ad.jpg

1/2" Thick Ring, 3/8" Thick Cover, fits every locker made, including the older ARB's with the big air line! These took way too long to get right so you better buy alot of them so I can break even:p They come with Cap Head Allen bolts, made for the 10mm only! And as always, machined perfectly flat after welding, lets face it, steel moves!

I think 4 new covers sounds good! As always, 3/8" thick, and thats not too thick or too heavy for you is it? Can you make something too strong? And yes they do weigh a little more, they also add more confidence that the rock you just smacked didn't smack your ring gear!

The NEW Covers will be the GM 10 bolt, GM 12 bolt, Dana 20, and I think 1 from the Dodge family to start!

We have about 4 more coming after that so keep an eye out for them breaking rocks near you!

Add those to the Covers we already make

14 Bolt FF
D60
D44
D35
D30
Ford 8.8
Chrysler 8.25
Toyota Landcruiser

I think we are almost there in having you "Covered", pun intended.....

Except for the 14 bolt, but we are adding fill plugs to them. We do not put the fill plugs on top of the diff cover. You do not wannt to overfill your diff unless you want to replace seals every 2 weeks.

I think I will test one of our "stock" covers in 3/8" plate, not a modified cover but the ones we sell everyday, maybe this weekend if I can find one to spare. We have been playing leapfrog with D44's & D60's all summer, we keep making more at a time and you guys keep buying us out before the next batch is ready. From what I hear it has been worse with some others but nobody can seem to keep them in stock........Give me a call, I am including a $10 off on the next purchase coupon to anyone that had to wait what I would call excessive (more than a week) for a diff cover.

Someone asked me why not just mount the link setup directly on the diff cover? He said he had seen it on some website and it seemed like a good idea?

I thought about it for about a second. My only thoughts were the point loading the diff cover bolts would have to withstand, it seems to me the point loads would be incredible.......I would have to say there are many other very secure ways of doing it, sounds like someone just wanting to be different. Sometimes different is good, sometimes its just a bad idea......

Time to get back to work, no more time to play!

Diff covers from hell! Well, not really from there, from the USA, made nowhere else, not now, not ever! All of our parts are only made in the USA!

Support America, buy American made! In a reccession you don't want to be buying something made offshore, it just contributes to the problem....... Allways think of where was that made? Is it helping to send your money offshore? And when you shop stay away from that "W" store that buys everything from China, they send ~60% of all sales dollars directly to China, how does that help you keep your job?

We have been getting slammed on every cover we make for a couple of months now, pretty much everyone has ordered one for what they broke this summer. All the D60's and 14 bolt covers should fly by the end of the week, Chrysler 8.25's too. The others are still barley in stock now but 100 more D44's on the way the week after.....

All the while trying to build up some stock so your wives and girlfriends can buy you one for Festivus......

I may have been doing a little too much advertising I think and word of mouth has really added to our sales, we are way over 300 covers a month now and it is truly a struggle to keep them in stock.......

planning on using the cover as a stressed part of an antiwrap setup. I thought the regular grade 8 bolts would stand up to more than the capscrews.

Gravel Maker
10-23-2007, 09:18 PM
But if I had I might have disagreed, Capscrews or Socket Head screws (Barrel Bodied) have a limited surface contact area so less actual grip on the cover. The hole dosen't change, however we use counterSUNK bolts with an 82 degree head so the surface area of contact is a little more than 60% greater than a regular bolt and nearly 75% greater than socket head bolts.....Cap heads are a little better. So, besides taking the head of the bolt completely out of harms way they are damm strong.

If you are going to mount anything to the cover you want the cover held in exactly the same place with no possible movement. Hex head or standard Socket head have a much smaller contact area and depend solely on that for positive cover location. Countersunk bolts allow for NO movement and have a much larger contact area and can spread the load better.

3/8" is mpre expensive than 1/4", maybe we should offer an economy model made of 1/4"? For those that don't really abuse their rig......Also, we provide the bolts when they are countersunk and they cost about $4 and all the covers are counterbored before shipping but countersinking is done afterwards. But we only countersink them as a service, charging only $5 for the service is a loss to us but a deal to you! Same goes for the drainplugs, they are not neccessary, but we do them as a service if you want them.

On your site, I selected a rear axle swap kit + diff cover. How do you add the Countersink and Drain plug options for the diff cover?

Just wanted to say thanks for the fast service - I ordered a 14-bolt cover kit online yesterday, and I got the notice that it had shipped within 20 minutes of placing the order.

I've already got one of yours on my front 60, this one will be a nice addition. :D

Its a long, hard fight to have a ton on the shelves, we are trying to keep a constant 400+ diff covers in stock! 406 this morning, 399 now, we are not one of those shops that only makes things after someone orders them, back to the battle!

When buying a diff cover from anyone......

Are they FLAT?
Our Diff Covers are all machined flat after welding, there is no other way to be sure of flatness and a good gasket seal.

How are they WELDED?
All of our Differential Covers are welded inside and out, yes, that doubles the time spent welding them, a cost other companies don't care to spend. We do to insure absolute strength.

When countersunk? Are they actually countersunk?
One company counterbores their covers and calls that countersunk. A countersunk hole has tapered sides, we use an 82 degree angle for the greatest contact area. A countersunk hole has 60% greater contact area than a hex head bollt and 70% more than a counterbored barrel head bolt. Just look at the profile of the different bolts.

Strength, Quality, Value, not just words......

Welding the inside adds too much weight & strength I guess? Thats ok, we machine them flat to remove the extra weight.

I have to say when I first saw Dan's covers I was blown away, I thought they were simply BAD ASS.

I have a D30 sitting in the garage just waiting to go on my HP30, however I think I am going to have to step up to the countersunk version of it and a matchin 8.8 cover for my Heep when the time comes, I will probably use the D30 cover I have here as a giveaway at an event I am sponsoring in May.

Anyway, even before I became a dealer for RSS I was a believer in their products, you simply can't go wrong with their covers.

We have grown at such a tremendous rate over the last 2 1/2 years and it can be a real challenge keeping up with orders. Since Christmas we have taken huge steps to rarely run out of something and that meant adding lots & lots of $$$ to our inventory levels but we did it, I haven't taken a paycheck in a very long time though:eek:......But keep the pressure on, it makes us better! The only real problem is the introduction of new items because of all the attention spent on inventory......Don't worry, lots of new stuff coming down the pike! :smokin:
