Gravel Maker 04-16-2008, 01:38 PM I just got a great quote from someone on the NAXJA site I thought I could share.....
"Calling those covers beefy is like calling the sun lukewarm. They'll stop everything short of a nuclear blast."
Sounds good to me.....

But just so people don't think I ignore questions.......
The 8.8 is a good axle but has its limitations, what you want might be better served by a stronger axle to begin with......For the cost alone it would be better but the additional strength and lack of need on another axle just outweighs the rest......
Gravel Maker 04-23-2008, 09:20 PM When buying a diff cover from anyone......
Are they FLAT?
Our Diff Covers are all machined flat after welding, there is no other way to be sure of flatness and a good gasket seal.
How are they WELDED?
All of our Differential Covers are welded inside and out, yes, that doubles the time spent welding them, a cost other companies don't care to spend. We do to insure absolute strength.
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/album%20dif%20cover%20pic.jpg
When countersunk? Are they actually countersunk?
One company counterbores their covers and calls that countersunk. A countersunk hole has tapered sides, we use an 82 degree angle for the greatest contact area. A countersunk hole has 60% greater contact area than a hex head bollt and 70% more than a counterbored barrel head bolt. Just look at the profile of the different bolts.
Strength, Quality, Value, not just words......
We build things certain ways, OK, we build things MY way......I come from a varied background and have had several distinctly different chapters in my life but the one thing that stands out through it all is, there is ALWAYS room for improvement and you can ALWAYS do better. We strive to do things better everyday and when jobs are going to other countries because someone can do something for less you need to stand back and think, what can I personally do to stop that from happening.
Think Quality in everything you do, don't ever stop at just good enough. Don't buy the junk sold in the big box stores, pay a little more for something made better and made to last. And when you buy something and they offer an extended wharantee ask them what happened to companies being proud of what they made, back when you didn't need an extended wharantee?
This country is facing the biggest problem it has ever faced in offshore competition and you do not want to be batting for the other side, buy American made products, made by people just like you! Keep the manufacturing base we have, when it is gone do you think Chinas products will still be inexpensive? I don't care who's Diff Cover you buy, just buy one made in the US! All of our jobs will ultimately depend on it.......And if you don't like what I say you need to step back and think on it......
4x4 is just about as American as you can get, lets keep it that way.

Gravel Maker 05-07-2008, 10:03 AM So do we, we are proud of what we make we just don't look very good in a bikini:smokin:
Watch for the new ones!
Gravel Maker 05-07-2008, 07:00 PM I don't care who you buy a diff cover from, BUT I do mind when a dirtbag POS spreads false crap about other peoples products.......what a Richard! If you have to spread doubt in peoples minds just to make a sale maybe you shouldn't be working for yourself.
We stand behind our products 100% and always have! If you don't like ours thats ok with me, Richard makes a nice liteweight one you can get for a few dollars less......
BTW, the secret IS in the weld, INSIDE & OUT!
Just ordered a D60 example, I look forward to abusing it. :smokin:
porterwagner 05-08-2008, 09:46 PM just ordered mine up for my d44! If you haven't got stuff from these Dan yet I recommend it. That guys quick!! I've always had excellent service and I can order online anytime I want and it'll be shipped out the next day. Keep up the great work and great products and I'll have to see what I can buy next! All I need now is a better locker to put inside my 44.

HaroldD 05-27-2008, 03:51 PM I finally got to replace the flimsy Electrac cover a real one on my 60 when the electrac failed.
The quality and fit of your product is superb!:grinpimp:
The flat machined surface worked great with a Lubelocker gasket, I couldn't be happier!
My only beef was having to hold the damn heavy thing up while bolting it:mr-t:, so I put a couple studs on the housing and then could just hang it there while I installed the rest of the bolts.
Thanks again for a great product!!!!!:smokin:

Nothing better than that!
Gravel Maker 05-30-2008, 08:08 AM I thought I might share this one, I found this on ebay and it really made me laugh. It is billed as the strongest 14 bolt diff guard made. Thats not the funny part but I DO wonder how they would know?
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/Backwards%20diff%20guard%20rockyroadsl.jpg
You look at it and say whats the problem? Look a little closer......it is made backwards, if you bolted this on it would be on the top of the diff cover  The small end of the 14 bolt goes to the left, not the right......Perhaps if it was designed by someone that had actually seen one on a rig or made by someone that had even seen an american car......
This is what you can get from companies that just hop on the bandwagon and don't do the work, someone had to approve the making of these, I would think that that someone actually had some knowledge of at least what a 14 Bolt axle looked like!
This is a Chinese import sold on ebay and I believe even sold on some Jeep forums. I actually think that company bought a differential ring from us 8 or 9 months ago, maybe they should have bought a whole cover with a Drain Plug so they knew the top from the bottom:laughing:
 I say.......The moral of this story is if you don''t know what you are looking at get a second opinion before you buy it.......And get a third and fourth opinion before you make it to sell!:)

He said if I could give him a good picture of what it was supposed to look like he would give me one! Oh goody!
That is too funny Dan!!!
I gave a D30 diff cover away at an event in Moab this weekend and EVERYONE loved the thing and it got traded around as the winner has a D60, but they all thought it was AWESOME, and I expect some orders here shortly.
Dirk
Gravel Maker 06-04-2008, 11:16 AM They always get that kind of reaction......
Gravel Maker 06-05-2008, 10:51 PM For the Rock Racing this weekend, come out and see us!
Gravel Maker 06-07-2008, 05:01 PM Its nice to have events like that so close to home when gas is so expensive.....
Gravel Maker 06-09-2008, 08:49 PM Keep pushing us the orders, it makes us better.......461 in May!
Gravel Maker 06-11-2008, 10:19 AM Well, we only use fixtures, a sandbag on top of an old garbage can seems to work best:shaking: , and we weld these with at least 2 batteries with at the very minimum 2/3's charge, anything less would just be wrong! And the file we use to machine them is still pretty sharp for something found at a garage sale;) the wire used comes from the best coathangers we can find (we have an in at the local laundry!):shhh: , all in all they turn out pretty good!

Actually, they are made by Elves in a hollow tree!:D
I think this is as good an answer as any!
Gravel Maker 06-12-2008, 09:38 AM Not really, just made with care in the USA! Made with US made steel too!
Gravel Maker 06-14-2008, 10:51 AM By about 100 years!
Gravel Maker 06-16-2008, 10:04 AM The real deal!
Gravel Maker 06-17-2008, 11:45 AM The answer is yes, our countersunk Diff covers do come with the bolts, you don't have to try and find the 82 degree grade 8 countersunk bolts.
And thanks for all the orders, the top 5 states we sell in are #1 - North Carolina (I think you guys must be the hardest on gear!), #2 - California (the Rubicon & Johnson Valley are here, just makes sense), #3/4 - Its a toss up every month between Texas & Michigan (lots of trails and lots of wheelers), #5 - Indiana, (home of one of our competitors, who would have thought?)

Its a go, 2 weeks!
Gravel Maker 06-20-2008, 07:52 PM At least I am going to get some hours on the new tig welder! I like big amperage! A little advise for those of you getting started with TIG, get as big a cooler as you can. A friend of mine just got a 250 lincoln without a cooler and he can't take the heat after 2 minutes, using our big miller with the 6 gallon cooler you can weld all day!
Gravel Maker 06-22-2008, 11:57 AM To be welding all day......But I still ended up doing 6 hours worth......Love that TIG!
3/8" plate welds so nice with it, I love the big amps!
Gravel Maker 06-24-2008, 11:13 PM That means its' 10pm and I'm still working.......what else is new:shaking:
Texas97 06-25-2008, 10:08 AM Its a go, 2 weeks!

Oh yea, GAS prices! Take the time to build something indestructable!
Gravel Maker 07-07-2008, 02:58 PM I did a couple of BBQ's & Beers until yesterday when the mercury hit 103......104 today, at least we are at work and not trying to have a BBQ!
Gravel Maker 07-08-2008, 04:04 PM The weather channel said it would be 106 today, my thermometer says 108!

Lawdodge 07-11-2008, 05:47 PM Outstanding product and Dan is a great guy. I picked up two covers today and installed them 30 minuted later. Nothing shy of a .50cal round is going to hurt these things. Thanks again,
Brett
Gravel Maker 07-11-2008, 10:26 PM And its good to know I can drive fast in Lincoln now too! WHEEEEEEEE!
Gravel Maker 07-15-2008, 09:52 AM Its too hot and I want to go snow wheeling!
jdholder 07-16-2008, 10:21 PM I have a 2001 Ford Excursion. The wimpy rear cover concerns me even on the fire road easy wheeling I run. Any covers for these trucks?
I think D60 Rear, D50 Front, right???

I think D60 Rear, D50 Front, right???
But we do make the D60, I have a D50 here but haven't yet had the time to make one for it. I do believe they went into alot of Ford trucks so I got one. Its a really stout high pinion housing, if only it didn't have the unit bearings.....
Gravel Maker 07-19-2008, 11:32 AM This weekend and look at that D50......
Gravel Maker 07-22-2008, 12:15 AM Can't say when but it shouldn't take too long......
The D60 you are asking about isn't a D60, its a Sterling as far as I can see and I looked under 10 of them this weekend and checked with my best parts guy at Ford, he tells me a D60 wasn't an option......?
jdholder 07-22-2008, 07:58 AM Thanks! Did some more research and you are right! It's a Sterling. And the 10.25 and 1.5 Sterling take the same cover.
The front is definitely a D50.
Gravel Maker 07-25-2008, 11:38 AM And the aftermarket is starting to make alot of parts for it, I think we had better get the Sterling cover done!
Gravel Maker 07-28-2008, 01:29 PM I spent it here working:shaking: Maybe I will take a little time soon, how about an October river trip in the Grand Canyon?
Gravel Maker 07-31-2008, 03:27 PM Not really.......
Just pretty dammed strong!
Charger92 08-01-2008, 08:57 PM The 9.25 cover, is that for the newer style front or old rear diff?
I have a 1992 Dodge Ramcharger with the 9.25 rear looking for a strong cover will your's work?
I do long hauls in my rig as well, is there any concern with heat build up from the thick cover?
If all is good above do you ship to Canada?
Thanks

Gravel Maker 08-10-2008, 03:13 PM So here you go! Normal prices listed......
14 bolt Kit - $93
D60 Kit - $89
D44 Kit - $85
Ford 8.8 Kit - $89
Chrysler 8.25 Kit - $90
These are our normal prices, not an introductory sale.......
The rest we do not offer in a kit form. However I would like to remind all of you that a kit is not for everyone. You must be a skilled welder and understand warpage and how to fight it. It is very easy to warp one to the point that it cannot be used, also you should have access to a Mill to flatten it out after it is welded (They will always warp a little). And lastly you will have to invest in a good counterbore to clear the weld out of the way of the bolt holes, it is very close in the area of the ring gear and carrier bolts.
We don't sell many covers as kits because of these factors and there really isn't any way to avoid them. We primarily sell the kits to shops and groups that will do a production run of as many as 50 of them at a time to make it cost effective......Keep it in mind.
Charger92 08-10-2008, 07:40 PM Thanks Dan,
As soon as you have the Dodge 9.25 rear covers for sale let me know or post in this thread, I will keep my eye on it.

Is that good or bad news?
Gravel Maker 08-18-2008, 10:16 PM I think I spoke to every one on Pirate, I didn't get to put the phone down til just now! Thank you all for keeping us so busy.......:D
Gravel Maker 08-22-2008, 08:49 AM Going on right now in the General 4x4 section!
Gravel Maker 08-23-2008, 09:48 PM I have always explained to people that our kit covers were great but there were a few things you needed to be prepared for if that was the route you chose.
This pic of a 14 Bolt cover shows how close the cap is to the bolt holes, you see how we have machined bolt head access, you need to be aboe to do that with a kit.....
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/14%20Bolt%20Cover%202%2016%2008.jpg
This is an 8.8 showing the flattening we do after they are welded, steel moves when welded, you must be prepared to correct that movement. The cover below it is a D60, notice how close the holes are to the welds. There are 4 holes that need alot of help after welding.

Not to pull you away from your busy schedule:flipoff2:, But are you making these for the 14B SF/9.5 yet?
Gravel Maker 09-14-2008, 12:51 AM Not to pull you away from your busy schedule:flipoff2:, But are you making these for the 14B SF/9.5 yet?
Only because there are so many FF 14 bolts for the same price in the yards, very, very few choose the Semi Floater.....
chrometip78 09-14-2008, 02:23 AM Yeah, I get it, nobody wants the wimpy SF when they can have the FF; I just like the smaller pumpkin, lighter weight and I'm not running 44's anytime soon. Appreciate the reply though.

Military Jeeper 09-19-2008, 03:49 AM Dan,
Will I have trouble with clearance with your diff covers with my hysteer D44 setup (Waggy Front with Parts Mike Hysteer Arms)? Also, I'm running ARB's F/R........will this interfere? If your answer to my 2 questions is no, then I need one for the front and rear D44's I have (Waggy D44's). Let me know if you want me to use your website to purchase or another means (I'd also like to have them countersunk).

We have used them ourselves, order them online because its faster the way the phone rings around here, if you order them in the next few hours they can go out today too. Last year we adjusted them to fit the '07 jeep air lockers so they fit ARB's even better too.....
When you order them be sure to plug in PBB10 to get the 10% discount!

Hawaiian order that shipped on time for the Saturday cutoff, yes we do ship on Saturdays!
Gravel Maker 09-21-2008, 10:38 PM Someone wanted to know the difference between Countersunk & Counterbored?
Counterbored is flat bottomed, we counterbore all of our covers to clear the weld out of the way so the bolt can fit. If you counterbore below the surface you just lower the bolt head.....
Countersunk is a flush with the surface finish, it is done after the covers are counterbored and allows continous surface area contact with the bolt head. The surface area of the bolt head is also much larger and cut at an angle, we use an 82 degree angle bolt.
Both are Allen head bolts but the countersunk has a much larger head, the counterbored head is also referred to as a "barrel head or socket head".
If I was to mount a ram to any diff cover I would only use a countersunk bolt. The reason is simply contact area & a Positive lock on the cover position. In simpler terms, if you hit a rock hard enough the cover will move fractionally with any bolt but a countersunk bolt, the full contact of a countersunk bolt holds the cover positively in position. The affect of the Hydro power (2-3000lbs force) constantly trying to move the cover will cause continous leaks to develop. In a worst case senario the bolts will work loose from the cover movement. Countersunk is the cure.....
Sorry for the long answer to a seemingly simple question.

Gravel Maker 09-26-2008, 10:59 AM can i get a quote on a d44 and d30 to 80226 and how does your cover compare to say a solid or riddler cover thanks
First off I should say that I have never held one of either of those covers in my hands......That said I will just say it as I see it.
Cast Iron VS. Steel, many companies don't know the difference and I am not a metalurgist so I can't say it scientifically but suffice to say cast steel is much stronger, MUCH.....However, it has limitations. The major limitations being cost to manufacture, cast steel is expensive and cast iron is cheap....
Without breaking one of each to see the structure of the casting I cannot say how those are made and won't speculate. However, many items are being made in China out of impure metals and if something cast is very cheap I would have to wonder where it was made? And we have all seen the sledge hammer videos by now. Not to mention the loss of US jobs when we need them.
Versus the 3/8" plate covers we make......
We use A536 plate throughout our line and have been very happy with the wear and longevity, the strength is beyond question. We weld them inside and out to avoid any weakness and to not do anything halfway. We machine them after welding so they are guaranteed flat. In the end I would comfortably say if you don't spend alot on a cast cover it would be substantially less strong and if you do spend alot it would likely be a good, quality cover but I think the idea is these are extremely strong and not an arm and a leg to buy.
On looks I would say ours are not pretty powdercoated things but the are great looking!
CronusTRD 09-26-2008, 11:46 AM Order placed for a D44 cover. I've always been happy with my previous orders. Can't wait for this one.

We were out of the D60's for awhile but life is good again! And now we have 2 benders capable of quality bends rather than just one! We need 2 to keep up with the demand and we are trying to have about 1200 covers on hand for the Christmas rush, last year we only needed 800.....

Now we have 2 Miller 250's and a Lincoln 350 to stay ahead.....! Not counting the Miller 300 TIG, it would take 2 hours to TIG a 14 bolt.......:shaking:
Thanks to Craigs List!:D

First off the guy thanked me for promoting buying American made products and said he worked in a factory and thanks.....But then he went on to say he always shopped at Walmart? I don't think he realized WM buys pretty much anywhere but the US if they can help it.....Think before you buy, if you don't see the problem you become part of the problem!

Gravel Maker 11-08-2008, 08:17 PM So that just leaves us with the people that matter, YOU!:p
So step up to the plate and stimulate the economy and buy a diff cover!
Gravel Maker 11-12-2008, 07:43 PM I wrote this a long time ago but the facts still shout out what you want to know......:D
However, I would like to add that we make our covers in the best possible way, we don't cut corners and tell people its good enough. We take the extra time to make them the right way, much better than "good enough"......There is a reason why we sell so many covers!
And just why did we lower prices? Well, we could have left them where they were and made more off of them but the economy kinda sucks for most of you right now and steel prices have fallen so why should we make more than we need to? Always fair priced!
We have been selling these for 3 years now here and elsewhere on the net, but our website is where you want to be.
This is one of the covers we have given away but it looks so good powdercoated that I think it will be our official advertising cover! Next to it is a sample of the Kit so you can really see how thick they are!

Someone asked me about the added weight? They wanted to know about the added weight of the 3/8" material.....
Well, there are several answers to that question
#1 - It is only 2-4lbs over a 1/4" cover
#2 - It is not Rotating weight
#3 - It is Un-sprung weight
#4 - Possibly the best answer in the era of top heavy vehicles, It is adding weight to the lowest portion of your vehicle!
Plus the peace of mind knowing you have the strongest cover made out there protecting your gears and lockers.....
Our diff Covers pretty much speak for themselves. But here are a few important points to consider when purchasing a differential cover......
#1 - Real Thickness before you start paying more for additional thickness. Our Covers are ALL 3/8" thick at no extra cost to you. No other manufacturer uses 3/8" plate. And you don't need more.....
#2 - Materials they are made of. ALL of our covers are made of A50 (536) plate steel, it costs' about .07-.10 more per pound but the additional strength is worth it.
#3 - Fill plug placement. We put the fill plug in the area you want it to be so you can easily check the fluid level. It is above the stock plug position but not so high so as to allow overfilling. Overfilling will just blow out seals, don't do it!
#4 - Finish Machining. We all know that when steel is heated it moves, there is no changing that no matter how well it is jigged. We ALWAYS machine our covers flat after welding. No other manufacturer does this and Any Welder with any experience can tell you that steel moves no matter how well it is tied down!
#5 - Welding. All of our Differential Covers are welded inside and out, yes, that doubles the time spent welding them, a cost other companies don't care to spend. We do it to insure absolute strength. Remember, any welder can have a bad day so welded twice makes way too much sense to not do.
#6 - Fair priced options that make sense. Our Drainplug is in the most protected area of the cover, not in the bottom of the ring which is the first place you hit. It cost's $5, no reason it should cost more. The Countersunk holes are only $10 and come with the special bolts. And at 3/8" thick we don't have to add anymore to get a bombproof cover!
#7 - Shipping Cost to you is $10 for 1 but we can ship 2 for the same cost, that is for anywhere in the US & Territories including Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Alaska! We also ship about 10 a week to Canada for $20 each.....
#8 - The PBB10 10% discount. It just makes a good deal better. Use it on anything we make except for beadlocks, they are a screaming deal already! And our covers start at $100 each so you can see the savings.....We give this discount so we can find out where our sales are coming from, it only makes sense to know, those that don't use it found us through Google and that helps us keep YOUR price low!
#9 - Variety. We make 10 different covers and are adding more this month, we want to be your cover manufacturer! 14 Bolt, D70, D60, D44, D35, D30, Ford 8.8, Chrysler 8.25, Toyota FJ40 /55/ 60 available now, lots more still on the design table!
#10 - Guarantee. Our Differential covers & all of our products have Always had an Unconditional Full Guarantee! We don't have to say no BS, there isn't any.....
#11 - Fit. Our covers fit every stock steering assembly made and we have not run into an aftermarket setup it dosen't fit either. Our covers are made to fit very close to stock specs to retain their positive oiling qualities.
All of the Diff Rings can be purchased separately also.
Here's a pic of one with countersunk holes and a safe drainplug, keep in mind "safe" is a relative thing.....However this is the safest place and we give you a couple of extra for when they do get bashed!

Gravel Maker 11-16-2008, 10:48 PM The guy asked me why we didn't sell our 3/8" thick Diff Covers as kits?
Well I asked him if his mouse worked? He said sure, he was on the internet wasn't he.....I told him to hit the link and visit our website......
Anyway, the answer is YES! We have been making the strongest 3/8" thick covers in kit form for nearly 3 years. And our kits start at $73 but the most expensive is only $88 for a 14 Bolt......:smokin:
They are not only the strongest but the easiest to weld up. We have been making these for a long time and we know what fits..... And they have always been available as both completed covers & as kits!

Gravel Maker 11-19-2008, 12:05 PM Lets face it, it isn't treating many of us very well.....However the bright spot is steel prices are falling and we have been able to lower prices, have your other suppliers lowered any of their prices?

Good question?
Gravel Maker 11-21-2008, 09:35 AM It's going to be hectic next week so get your eggs in a row now! Let them know what you want for Festivus ahead of time!
As usual we will be expanding our phone hours to 8-8, 7 days a week to accomidate everyone on the holiday orders and we are very girlfriend friendly and I am pretty good at interpreting their calls but if they get you the wrong thing we can always exchange it, maybe a better choice would be a Ruffstuff gift certificate.......
Gravel Maker 11-22-2008, 01:42 PM I was up til 8am watching the Baja......But I'm back at the shop if you tried us this morning.....
Gravel Maker 11-23-2008, 06:37 PM Time to get that axle housing done, we have been working on it for nearly 3 years.....
Gravel Maker 11-24-2008, 04:32 PM Thanks again for all the orders!
Gravel Maker 11-25-2008, 09:35 PM On Friday, the day after Thanksgiving we will be going to 7 days a week again, same as last year, 8am - 8pm PST. You will get through!
Gravel Maker 11-28-2008, 07:40 PM But only 1 hr & 20 minutes left! Keep'em coming!
Gravel Maker 11-29-2008, 07:53 PM We answer the phone! 1 hour & 10 minutes left today!
If you want a cheaper Diff Cover they are easy to find, if you want a cover someone took the time to weld inside and out and then machine flat in the thickness you want these are already fairly priced.....
Your turn little ricky!
280GE 11-29-2008, 10:35 PM Do you sell the lubelocker gaskets? It would be nice to buy this gasket with the cover.
Thanks

Charger92 01-04-2009, 04:39 PM Hey Dan you mentioned a few months back, on a phone call with me, that the Dodge 9.25 covers were still on the bench from unforeseen circumstance and to check back in a few weeks.
Any luck with them yet?
Gravel Maker 01-04-2009, 06:42 PM Hey Dan you mentioned a few months back, on a phone call with me, that the Dodge 9.25 covers were still on the bench from unforeseen circumstance and to check back in a few weeks.
Any luck with them yet?
The "Unforseen" circumstances were that the bender we were working with on it went out of business due to a government contract and the price of steel. So we are back to the drawing board pretty much on that one but I do have a new employee starting tommorrow.
Part of his interview was to design a part in 15 minutes. It was a pretty easy part if you were good with cad it was a 10 minute design, he did it in about 3 minutes! So he is getting right to work on 3 covers and a half a dozen other projects.....I hope soon on the Dodge covers.
And Yes! We are hiring the kind of people that fit well within our little group of 9, while most people are cutting back we are still growing!
Gravel Maker 01-07-2009, 10:00 AM The Industry Standard cover!
Gravel Maker 01-08-2009, 10:41 AM of diff covers are going out the door, with our Year end sale we ran out of D44's, 150 back in stock Monday, welded and machined yesterday, out yesterday and today!
Gravel Maker 01-18-2009, 04:44 PM We made a serious commitment to not running out of covers and have been pretty good at keeping them all in stock, we did run out of the D44's during the Year end sale but they have been back in stock for 10 days. I am trying to keep an even 300 in stock and we seem to be doing it right!
Gravel Maker 01-19-2009, 08:36 PM Simply changing how you total the cost dosen't equal lowering prices, paying less equals lower prices:D
Fuzzy math, absolutely......doing you a favor? I don't think so:(
When we lowered prices 3 months ago we actually lowered prices, we didn't restructure our billing to say we did!
Gravel Maker 01-20-2009, 11:13 PM 7 D44's out today? Did some company have a big axle sale and I missed it?
Gravel Maker 01-21-2009, 11:25 AM All of our diff covers in stock!
Gravel Maker 01-22-2009, 10:18 AM From people asking why a couple of others are less expensive? I think the reasons are pretty easy to see. We simply put more effort into ours, the steel costs are pretty much the same for everyone, steel is a commodity!
But with ours you never hear the horror stories about how the cover was so warped and the manufacturer suggested trying 3 gaskets to get it to seal (I really was told that one).....And then they would not take it back because it had been painted!
Gravel Maker 01-23-2009, 11:02 AM I really dislike Sacramento in the winter......
CEPCNC 01-23-2009, 07:06 PM hey, I've got a '05 Jeep GC (WK), I read on your sight you have the 8.25" diff covers, will those work for vehicles equipped with/without ELSD from the factory??
Gravel Maker 01-23-2009, 07:46 PM hey, I've got a '05 Jeep GC (WK), I read on your sight you have the 8.25" diff covers, will those work for vehicles equipped with/without ELSD from the factory??
But I have been told they fit fine.....
Gravel Maker 01-24-2009, 09:30 PM So I spent most of the day welding to stay warm, finally doing something to one of my own rigs! Oh yeah, Diff Covers for sale!
Gravel Maker 01-25-2009, 01:55 PM Look no further!
T_MADD 01-25-2009, 05:01 PM Dan, do you still have fj40 covers? I don't see them on your site anymore.

T_MADD 01-26-2009, 01:37 PM On the FJ40 covers.....
Yea, Are FJ40 diff covers available? If so, how much??
Gravel Maker 01-26-2009, 06:47 PM Yea, Are FJ40 diff covers available? If so, how much??
We took them from the site because they were too expensive to make the way we were doing it (they required $30 worth of machining), they will be back soon.
BTW, some of you have been waiting on the Sterling covers the first prototype is completed and going into production!
CaliCruiser 01-26-2009, 06:58 PM Hey Dan,
Any word on the FJ60 rear covers?
Thanks,
Dylan
Gravel Maker 01-26-2009, 11:04 PM Hey Dan,

Gravel Maker 01-31-2009, 12:41 PM Dan...are you guys making them for the AAM 9.25 & 10.50 yet. I really would like a set for my powerwagon.
Those are 2 axles I don't have yet, and I thought 36 Axles were enough! I guess thats why we built 4 racks that hold 10 axles each......:shaking: The bad thing is that when we buy them we don't sell them, we keep them around for reference.....I will start looking for those, I do have the Dodge 9.25 but not an AAM.....How different are they besides being early and late?
mistertrustee 01-31-2009, 05:47 PM Not sure the difference between the early and late. All I can tell ya is their on all Dodge's 02-08 2500 & 3500's. I wish I lived closer to ya cause I would be willing to lend you my truck for a few days so you could make these. I know they would sell....cause their are alot of Power Wagon Owners looking for upgraded Diffs and unforturnately their's only one company out there making them for our rigs and the diffs are made thru a steel casting which is "better" than stock, but not as good as your 3/8" in my opinion.
Gravel Maker 02-01-2009, 06:36 PM Is the buyer for Pick 'n Pull for the west coast, I will give him a call and get some over here.....Not sure when but pretty soon.....
Gravel Maker 02-02-2009, 02:33 PM Thanks again for keeping us so busy!

Gravel Maker 02-05-2009, 10:53 AM We do run out now and then but we are making them more than 100 each type at a time so running out is getting to be a rare occurance!

you ever plan on doing gm 10 bolt covers?
Gravel Maker 02-06-2009, 11:01 PM A 12 bolt axle this week so the answer is yes, it will take some time because we are really busy but I have 1 guy working only on new stuff all day 3 days a week. He is finishing an engineering degree and has worked as a fabricator & mechanic for the last 4 years.....I have also delegated nearly every other function to another employee so I am free to answer the phone and work with my main fabricator on new stuff. We are concentrating on 4 seperate areas right now and one of them is new diff covers......
thanks for the response. I ran your covers on my TJ, they were very well made and did a great job protecting the diff. now I need some for my K5. let me know when you got the 10 bolt ready and I'll place an order

pdrhound 02-11-2009, 07:24 AM you ever plan on doing gm 10 bolt covers?
your joking right?
Gravel Maker 02-11-2009, 09:12 AM I think in this economy we may become a "run what you brung" group if we don't see some recovery soon! You don't want 39's on a 10 bolt but it beats the hell out of a D35:D
Gravel Maker 02-13-2009, 09:04 AM For another record week!
Gravel Maker 02-14-2009, 11:33 AM Saturday mornings are the only time of the week when they don't ring off the hook....!

Gravel Maker 02-24-2009, 09:17 AM Or just a short break? Hammered again yesterday!
Flooding is a good reason to have a great diff cover!
Gravel Maker 02-25-2009, 08:06 PM Whats the forecast down south?
We have about 30 rigs with our covers entered, I really lost track of how many....Maybe we will have a winner! Likely not though, more likely a big dollar team with everything custom.....The race should be limited to only entrants that do all the work themselves!
Gravel Maker 02-26-2009, 10:36 AM So they say it dosen't need being done but they are doing it? Sounds like Doubletalk to me....Anyway, the reality of it is they agree with me and they DO need to be machined flat after welding! Too bad they are still more expensive than our covers, they matched our thickness but couldn't match our price!
