We have been selling these for over 5 years now here and elsewhere on the net, but our website is where you want to be.

This is one of the covers we have given away but it looks so good powdercoated that I think it will be our official advertising cover! Next to it is a sample of the Kit so you can really see how thick they are!

http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_shingydiff.jpghttp://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/products10/normal_d44cover2.jpg

Someone asked me about the added weight? They wanted to know about the added weight of the 3/8" material.....

Well, there are several answers to that question

#1 - It is only 2-4lbs over a 1/4" cover
#2 - It is not Rotating weight
#3 - It is Un-sprung weight
#4 - Possibly the best answer in the era of top heavy vehicles, It is adding weight to the lowest portion of your vehicle!

Plus the peace of mind knowing you have the strongest cover made out there protecting your gears and lockers.....

Our diff Covers pretty much speak for themselves. But here are a few important points to consider when purchasing a differential cover......

#1 - Real Thickness before you start paying more for additional thickness. Our Covers are ALL 3/8" thick at no extra cost to you. No other manufacturer uses 3/8" plate.

#2 - Materials they are made of. ALL of our covers are made of A50 (536) plate steel, it costs' about .07-.10 more per pound but the additional strength is worth it.

#3 - Fill plug placement. We put the fill plug in the area you want it to be so you can easily check the fluid level. It is above the stock plug position but not so high so as to allow overfilling. Overfilling will just blow out seals, don't do it!

#4 - Finish Machining. We all know that when steel is heated it moves, there is no changing that no matter how well it is jigged. We ALWAYS machine our covers flat after welding. No other manufacturer does this and Any Welder with any experience can tell you that steel moves no matter how well it is tied down!

#5 - Welding. All of our Differential Covers are welded inside and out, yes, that doubles the time spent welding them, a cost other companies don't care to spend. We do it to insure absolute strength. Remember, any welder can have a bad day so welded twice makes way too much sense to not do.

#6 - Fair priced options that make sense. Our Drainplug is in the most protected area of the cover, not in the bottom of the ring which is the first place you hit. It cost's $5, no reason it should cost more. The Countersunk holes are only $10 and come with the special bolts. And at 3/8" thick we don't have to add anymore to get a bombproof cover!

#7 - Shipping Cost to you is $11.50 for 1 but we can ship 2 for the same cost, that is for anywhere in the US & Territories including Guam, Puerto Rico, US Virgin Islands, Alaska! We ship about 10 a week to Canada for $23 each.....

#8 - The PBB10 10% discount. It just makes a good deal better. Use it on anything we make except for beadlocks, they are a screaming deal already! And our covers start at $100 each so you can see the savings.....We give this discount so we can find out where our sales are coming from, it only makes sense to know, those that don't use it found us through Google and that helps us keep YOUR price low!

#9 - Variety. We make 10 different covers and are adding more all the time, we want to be your cover manufacturer! 14 Bolt, D70, D60, D44, D35, D30, Ford 8.8, Chrysler 8.25, Ford Sterling, Dodge 9.25 are available now, lots more still on the design table!

#10 - Guarantee. Our Differential covers & all of our products have Always had an Unconditional Full Guarantee! We don't have to say no BS, there isn't any.....

#11 - Fit. Our covers fit every stock steering assembly made and we have not run into an aftermarket setup it dosen't fit either. Our covers are made to fit very close to stock specs to retain their positive oiling qualities.

All of the Diff Rings can be purchased separately also.

Here's a pic of one with countersunk holes and a safe drainplug, keep in mind "safe" is a relative thing.....However this is the safest place and we give you a couple of extra for when they do get bashed!

just wasn't in the pic, we used that pic to really show how thick they are. It's kind of hard to tell when they are welded up.....think beefy!

Well, we have priced these very well from the start, more than fair. But, when you apply the pirate discount ($11 each) and save the shipping on 1 ($9.45) because we can fit 2 in a box its a screaming deal, $207.45 delivered for the D60's, $189.45 for 2 D44's......You be the judge on that one.:smokin:

I am interested in two of the 60 kits. I have a tig welder to weld these, what would you recommend is the best way to weld them without warping?

How would you like the payment to be made?

Thanks Darren

Gravel Maker
05-31-2006, 08:09 AM
With a TIG you are going to take some time and lots of wire. We weld them from the inside out. First clean it up good, then position the cover on the ring, then a heavy tack on 4 or 6 corners, then start your weld, inside the cover plate itself, outside the cover plate, then inside the where the cover and ring meet, then the outer surface where the ring and cover meet. Using a TIG you should have no problem with warpage, just low heat and lots of wire. Like any welding operation, clean is one of the keys. We have had no real problem with warpage when welding them with this method. Thanks for your interest.

We cannot keep up with PM kind of sales so all sales are taken from the website and we prefer PaPal for the simplicity. For the discount plug in the code while checking out, it gives you the place to put it in.

Any plans for making a cover for an Eaton rear? As far as I know, no one makes a cover for them so you'd have the market cornered if you decide to do it. I can send you a factory cover if you want to use it as a template.

I have not had any real demand for the Eaton's so they would have to go to the rear of the line but if the cover you have is an extra send me your PayPal info and I will give you $20 and $10 for a flat rate box for it.

Thanks for the support guys! It is nice to hear when someone likes something you make.

But bad news, I took my son down the Colorado river in Grand Canyon for 2 weeks and before we left I made sure we had plenty of covers in stock but the D60's are selling so fast we are now down 5-6 days on D60's, we are fine on the others but bending and welding as fast as we can on the D60's.

BTW, after 65 GC trips I finally flipped in a little pissant rapid without even a proper name, 234 mile, oh the power of big water! And now my son wants to put down the Mig gun and be a boatman.....can't say I blame him.....:p

:( Our first run of D30, D35, and Chrysler 8.25" covers sold through too, and my computer guy can't find the pics we took! They will be back in stock Friday and we will have new pics for them too! We did a little design change on them to make them both stronger and easier to manufacture. The ring is now 1/2" thick, it was a real challenge to make the cover 3/8" thick and clear the guts and the bolts so we went big and now a 1/2" ring is the word! Now we all know that a D35 or a D30 is not a monster axle but not everyone has $6000 to spend on their axles either so this will give you the protection you need when you start out.....and I don't think you will have a problem reselling it when you move up either! :smokin:

any plans for Sterling 10.5/ 10.25?

Gravel Maker

any plans for Sterling 10.5/ 10.25?
I have had a few people ask and we have added them to the list but to be honest the Sterling is pretty far down the list, we really need to finish up all the rest first. 6 Different covers so far, 9 to go.....

When we make a 1 piece cover it really isn't as easy as it might seem. We went through 12 prototypes on the D35 before we got that right, 14 hours on Cad for the 14 Bolt before we could even try and bend the first of 7 test covers before it was perfect. Anyway, you get the idea, we are pretty hard pressed to work on more than 2-3 at a time and it usually takes us about a month of test and try again before we're done.

But the Sterling is on the list, it will definately be a small production run and the cost will be a little higher because of the low demand but we will make them, probable cost will be about $130 and timing about 3 months out.

Our scheduling is Landcruiser and 8.8 this month, 10 and 12 Bolt and the D44 Aluminum next month, 14 Bolt SF and Dodge 9.25 the next, and then we will have a little cover breathing room to do the Sterlings.

A couple of my competitors do make them I believe if you need them sooner but ours will continue the line of 3/8" throughout.

How much for the D30 cover?

Gravel Maker
07-21-2006, 10:39 AM
It is a little more expensive than we we're shooting for but we had to make it much stronger than anyone would ever need just to be able to make it in .375" plate. The center on a D30 is pretty small and Dana had to use every milimeter of the space to fit it in so to use .375" as the cover material we had to use a .5" thick ring to get the room we needed and be able to clear the tie rods and internals, that has kept the cost higher than our $90 target, however, this cover is bombproof to protect your investment and strengthen your axle. The new pics will be up either this afternoon ar in the morning.

Sent you a PM about the dana 30 cover
Replied.

The question was do we sell a D30 in kit form?

I have been debating whether or not to do so, you see the materials are more expensive than the D44 and it would have to be $4 higher in price for the D30 all because of the 1/2" ring. I have decide that we will sell it in kit form also, the Kit price will be $72. It is actually less expensive for us to weld though and that is why we can sell the completed covers for the same price.

See this last post! 10 & 12 bolt work has begun!

We aren't a huge shop with 50 people running around and we don't make 50 things at the same time, Diff Covers are a time consuming process, multiple prototypes, and more than a few dollars go into every new model we produce. So when we make one we make the best one made! Sure, thats an opinion, and yes, everyone is entitled to their own opinion too, but the thanks we keep getting tell us we are doing something right!

I think we will keep doing things the RuffStuff way!

Plus the peace of mind knowing you have one of the strongest, if not the strongest cover made out there protecting your gears and lockers.....

Does the 14 bolt cover have a drain bolt?

Do you have that in stock as well as the caliper brackets for it too?

And yes, they are in stock, so are the caliper brackets, and yes, we will ship to Alaska for that price.....

We do not put a drain plug in these because anywhere in the drain area is a bad choice, rocks will either immediately make it unusable, or they will open it for you. Think about drain plugs and the problems we have with them in the rocks.

It is pretty expensive for just 1, very cheap for alot of them. We can do 1 for $45 extra but i hope you like black, give me a call about color choices. You can call anytime up to about 10pm pacific time.

HPD60 and plainly said it was a D60 when ordering. Do you mount the fill hole in a higher location with a HPD60 vs. a standard D60?

Send me an email with your real name and we will weld one with a Higher fill plug, we normally center the plug but with a HP60 we set them 1" higher.

You may not have noticed we have lowered our prices for them. We have been getting a very serious demand for them and quantities like these allow us to lower the prices. We still are selling mostly Kits to shops but fully welded covers are catching up.....

This is one of the covers we gave away but it looks so good powdercoated that I think it will be our official advertising cover! Next to it is a sample of the Kit so you can really see how thick they are! And we have always had an Unconditional Guarantee on these and ALL of our products!
http://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/normal_shingydiff.jpghttp://www.ruffstuffspecialties.com/gallery/albums/products10/normal_d44cover2.jpg

We only make these in a 3/8" thick model, it only costs' us $2 more than if we made it out of 1/4" so why bother with 1/4" at all? We also make these exclusively from A50 Plate, it is a very dense Steel and again, it isn't really that much more to make them that way so why not? I think they were originally designed by someone from the Henry Ford or Daimler era, we just improved them by making them out of 3/8" plate. We do not put a drain plug in these because anywhere in the drain area is a bad choice, rocks will either immediately make it unusable, or they will open it for you. Think about drain plugs and the problems we have with them in the rocks.

Plus the peace of mind knowing you have one of the strongest, if not the strongest cover made out there protecting your gears and lockers.....

The new prices are:

Dana 44 Welded, $100, Kit $65
Dana 60 Welded, $110, Kit $79
14 Bolt Welded, $120, Kit $87

All of the Diff Rings can be purchased separately also.

We are adding 6 more covers to the lineup in the next 2 months and another 6 over the next 6 months so if we don't make yours yet keep checking back.

OH! Did I forget to mention that the PBB10 10% discount is good on these and anything we sell? My bad :smokin: , and that shipping for 2 is only $9.45 because we can fit 2 in a USPS Flat Rate Box!:D

Crap I didn't even think about it, I just ground on it to make it fit the ring for better weld fit-up. Looks like I screwed the pooch too... I just went and checked. The ring gear already cut two grooves on the inside of the cover :(

Yes, it cost's us alot to make them when we don't have orders for them but that is the only way we can ship them as soon as we get the order. We try and have at least 25 of each in stock, however when we come out with new ones it may be a month before we figure out how well they will sell, right now we are having trouble keeping up with the Chrysler 8.25" covers, we have sold over 50 of them already, I had no idea they would take off like that.

Anyway, we will continue to keep up our policy of everything in stock, we are with it about 95% of the time but every now and then.....we finally got a grip on how many of the 3 Legged links we need to keep on hand (alot!) and we will get it right on the 8.25's too.

Thanks for the business, think Strength, Quality, & Value.....

Dan - thanks again for a quality product and great service!

For everyone else -

I ordered a D60 cover kit (I was gonna weld it up) and asked on the order if I could get it with the countersunk holes too. Not two minutes after completing the order, my phone rings and I get a message from Dan saying that since the countersink drilling is done after the welding (to clearance around the holes properly) they can't ship the weld-it-yourself kits like that. No big deal, and it shipped out minutes after that. I called Dan back and he took the time to go over which countersink bit to buy and which bolts etc if I decided to do it myself, and also gave some advice on how position the pieces for best clearance when welding.

The kit arrived 4 days later, all the pieces went together great, and I think it makes a great addition to the front 60 I'm building. Especially once I finish bracing the hydro ram mount and get the real tie rod in place. :smokin:

Dan,

I placed an order on Nov 20, #1094

You said it should have shipped out on the following day but I haven't gotten anything.

Can you please get back to me.

Thanks

Gravel Maker
12-02-2006, 09:34 PM
to your email address......this shipped USPS Flat Rate but I did insure it.....when we spoke you told me it was a D60 which we keep in stock everyday, when I saw the ticket it was a HP D60 which we make to order due to low demand.....that added 2 days to the order and pushed us right into Thanksgiving.

However, I am certainly sorry for any delay involved on our part.

We will not make the holiday for it though.....

Gravel Maker
12-15-2006, 01:44 AM
Right now we have in stock Quite a few Diff covers for holiday delivery, Delivery however is always the question before Festivus......

Presently we have:

21 - 14 Bolt Covers
26 - D60
19 - D44
27 - 8.8
13 - Chrysler 8.25
17 - D30
12 - D35

These are in stock and ready to go out the door, we have many 8.8, 8.25, & 14 bolt kits, the rest we are very low on so if one of these is what you gotta have get moving, we will not have more of any cover untill it is too late to ship.

Our goal is always to have 40 of each ready to ship on hand but with the holidays upon us our inventory levels change very quickly.

12-18-2006, 09:28 AM
Arriving on time with the rush is questionable though, we could print up a nice certificate about what they are going to get if you wish......

We will be out of D60 kits for a week or so, have covers, no kits. We will be back in stock on D44's Friday.....Have plenty of 14's, 8.8's, D30's, 8.25's, & D35's.......

You guys really pounded us on the covers for Festivus gifts......almost half of the cover sales in December were to women.....

5 New covers over the next 2 months, starting in about a week......

Gravel Maker
01-05-2007, 08:46 AM
Is it necessary? I can't really answer that question for you but I can say that before you have covers 3/8" thick there is always in the back of your mind the thought "watch out for that rock", with covers this strong that thought goes away......Having the added strength adds confidence and you perform better.

I got mine, and welded her up, I trimmed the edges and sat the cover down as low as I could without hitting the ring gear for more tie-rod clearance, then spent 10 min with a 120 grit flap disc making the cover silky smooth. It should be good, I cant wait to get painted green and the 60 in the truck! :D

We don't send Tracking numbers because our software is not compatable with the PO software (we are in the process of changing ours) and Fedex & ups charge too much for the weight. However, we have tracking numbers if something is lost......Give me a call when you get a chance.

M20 jeep covers yet ?
Thanks,

The basic design we are working on is very difficult to make in 3/8" so we are trying it a couple of different ways to see if we can do it easier. If it is easier to make, it is cheaper to sell.....

Well, we threw the design out the window and are working on the new style. If only we made wimpy 1/4" covers it would be sooooooo easy.....the round covers are really a bitch in 3/8" but we will not fail, 16 prototypes so far:eek:

we were working on and start over, it just wasn't possible the way we were trying to do it. the new design looks like it will work but of course we are going to have to squeeze them into the schedule and test them with every locker available first.......We shipped 49 covers this week and the production numbers we are doing make adding new covers very challenging.....

After 7 years of BBall it won't be the same.......anyway, they kicked some serious butt! They beat the other team 68-55, and they were supposed to be good! They beat us last game but we only had 5 kids and 2 of them were sick.....we showed them who is the best this time. But they are off to HS next year and no more team. I think I had a better time than they did and I recommend being a coach to anyone, it is really great watching the kids grow up, I had them from 7 to 14 and it was great!

BTW, Great Monster covers available here!
