Thank all for the decision help. So I am looking at a AMC20 to 9inch. I have the source.
Question: 1983 CJ What is for stock AMC20 or 44:
- spring perch to perch center
- outside axle flange to outside axle flange
- outside wheel hub to wheel hub
My stock axle to too bent for these checks. This is the way to bought her. Someone wrapped a chain to the outside tube. I've search open web, I do not find exact clear written measures. I do not want to order this 9 wrong.

is it a CJ5 or a 7? If I remember correctly 5's are narrow track and 7's went wide track in 82. Oh and narrow is 52" WMS to WMS and wide is 56" WMS to WMS.

thats a big pumpkin on the 9" you'll have to get some good meats and lift to clear that thing over the rocks. Are you ordering a custom made one? Or the infamous Lincoln Versi 9" with disk brakes? Its only 27 or 28 spline BTW.

CJ7 widetrack '83
Planning to custom order. Was considering it myself but for the cost and time with a pick & pull, I'll better better to order it. Hotrods have long used 9's so there are lots of sources besides the advertised for Jeeps and lots cheaper.
I will do my own disks. e-brake without internal rotor pads. Lots of choices from today's cars without using old caddy calipers.
I can't believe the 9 is much larger than a AMC pumpkin. The AMC is huge. I'll likely get 31 splines unless it is 35.
I need measures for the order. What does WMS stand for ?

WMS = wheel mount surface.
The 52" and 56" measurements are from where the rim meets the hub to the other side where the rim meets the hub.

Spring perch center to center 36"
Axle flange is around 51 1/2" - 52" (hard to measure with axle in together in Jeep)

why not just use a 9" from an older bronco.. width is just about the same as stock wide track cj and you can get them for cheap..by the time you buy a 3rd member gears axles its still cheaper then having one custom made and if you want disk brakes you can use all types of combinations for the brake setup...

Just a question. No one yell at me.
Why is WMS 56" the common measure for a Wide track Rears when both the AMC20 and Dana44 are shown in various tech articles to have 54 1/2" WMS dimensions?
The Dana30 Wide track Fronts are showning the same articles as 56 WMS.

Then that 54.5 is the correct measurement
