Here is what I'm looking for: something I can take to Carnegie & Pismo and ride on the street in between

It has got to be fairly light, I'm small and don't like lifting big pigs off the ground after I crash! Fourstrokes are ok as long as they are fairly light!

The more street legal the better, I can always tear sh*t off for the dirt.

The more wheel sets the better, I can dream can't I? 17s anyone?

I know I could build it, but it is usually cheaper/easier to buy something built.

Hey Bud,
Can you expand a little on the suckyness of it on the street. I was thinking it would be hella fun with some wide sticky 17"s. Hey you know how street bikes have that rubber cush/damper in the chain drive part of the hub. Ever heard of problems with not having that and riding on the street? I think I remember reading somewhere that it might wear out the countershaft bearing?

the fact that you just cant pull in a gas station and fill up would suck along with they wouldnt get very good gas milage and probably end up falling plugs do to lugging it around jus t a few thoughts :rasta:

Well, I've had a couple of 2 stoke street bikes, RZ350s & RD400s, so I am used to premixing at the gas stations. Really not that big a deal, you just have to carry a small bottle of oil around with you. Gas milage would definitely suck! I wouldn't have to worry about lugging it and fouling plugs, more like worrying about all the tickets for wheelieing!

How bout an aluminum frame CR500 from Service Honda, that is if you got about 8k$ to spare.:smokin: Man that would be sweet.

I would love to have one of these bikes.

Yup,
That is my dream bike, but I don't have $8,000 grand laying around. If I sold my 01 cr125, maybe, hmmm

I have a Vertemati for sale if you are interested ?

http://home.attbi.com/~rittiman2/

you can always add the super motard front brake setup it sticky and it would look like this.

Another very nice bike, but again a little too rich for my blood.

Thanks

Here goes for the suckyness.......

They dont hold constant rpms very well, like at high way speeds. Sure its not reving very high at 70mph BUT the rpms are constantly "hunting".... I know that is a "problem" with the jetting, but I cant get the jetting to be crisp for trail riding and smooth at part throttle hiway speeds....... its just the nature of the beast :D

As far as filling up at a gas station goes... its not a problem at all, I use an old baby bottle (it has 1/8 oz marked on it) and a little conversion chart to figure out how much oil to put in..... I've done almost 100 miles between fill ups with my IMS tank on the street..

I know that with some 17"s on it...(I like 19"s flat track style better)... and ballance the wheels ,alot of the (shit mabey ALL of) the viberation will go away, but the viberation really dosnt bother me too much as is.......

As far as the rubber sprocket pads go, look at the XR650L and the new DRZ's they mount the sprocket straight to the hub.... I think its more for chain life on loder bikes?...I run the chain a little bit tighter if I'm going on a "long" street ride just because it "bounces around" alot if its lose....

What I do like about it is.. the abilty to go from dirt to street and back again, its the ultimate :D DIRT BIKE :D

And finally......
All the fast motard and flat track riders use 4-stroke bikes because they have engine braking and it's (from what I've read and seen) easier to "back" in a thumper with engine compression breaking rather than using the rear brake.....

I recently sold my 98XR650L. I really liked it alot. Did everything well. Pro Circuit header, FMF pipe and an IMS plug. Jetted and open air box with K&N. Thing flat out hauled ass. Also had an extra set of wheels with Knobbies. With suspension stiffened up a bit, thing also worked extremely well off road too. A tad overweight, but felt lighter than it was. A fine choice IMHO.

I love seeing them back into corners and wheelie out with the back tire spinning, so cool.

Thanks for the info Kyron. I think I can deal with most of that suckyness. I'm not going touring or anything:D . Mostly just local canyon blasts. I got the urge again for some twisty stuff and it helps me justify buying another bike. Makes me feel better than just buying a bike for Carnegie & Pismo, I get to add canyons to the list and somehow that makes it look more "practical". I'm really stretching it hear aren't I. Now how about your price, isn't that a little high? You don't really want to get rid of it do ya? You still got it reg in CA?
