I already started parting out my last rig and I have $2000 burning a hole my pocket. I decided to go with a Toyota based rig for my next project and others told me about the Hendrix chassis. So what advice can you give me before I get too involved? (I've learned that it's easier and cheaper to learn from the mistakes of others.)

Here's the donor rig I bought. It's a running '81.

Right now I intend on getting the Formula 4 (so I can fit the wife and kids), converting to propane, and doubling the transfercase. Really no plans for competition. I just figured it would be better to buy this chassis instead of building my own.

Take a look here. Check out a bunch of the build threads and decide if an F-toy is for you. http://www.pirate4x4.com/formula_toy/rigs.html

One mistake I made was thinking all it was is a chassis weld to a frame and its done.

I've been reading about the build ups for a couple of days now. The main reason I decided on going with this chassis is I think it's worth my time to buy some thing that is already a good design. If I don't buy one I'll be spending a lot of time building one from scratch. I understand that it's not a simple "weld it to your chassis and start wheelin" type of affair.

Finally someone without a chassis "gets it" :)
