welder question

A buddy of mine gave me a Scott arc welder and I can't find anything about the company that made it or the welder itself on the net. Its an alternator that is inside a casing of black sheet metal, it has a power outlet and the places to hook your quick connect welding leads up with a rotary nob to set the amperage and it is ran by a V-belt. My question is, has anyone on here ever seen one of these or know anything about them. The company who makes these are Belco Industries Inc. out of Carrizozo New Mexico. I have no idea how old this is or if it even works. Thanks for any info in advance. Bryan

I dont know much about it, and have never heard of it, so dont take what I have to say to heart, but most likely if you cant get much info on it then it might not be worth messin with, simply because parts wont be readily available if at all, good luck either way.

the only way to know if it works is to plug it in a try to strike an arc. If it works keep it unitll it dies, just keep a fire extenguiser around
