My rig sucks because I can't stop spending all my cash on tools ;)
Local supplier has 20 ton shop press frame (I would power with a 20 ton bottle jack) on sale for $160 (60 off).
Will I be satisfied, or kicking myself I didn't go 30 ton?
Price jump is significant as 30 ton not sold as a seperate frame, and complete press with electro-hydraulics is $900.
So, question is......will a 20 ton get it all done (think any and everything truck/automotive)

Our 20 ton has done everything that we have asked it to do and more. From 4wd's to tractors to 18 wheelers. I can't see any reason for the bigger press, other than just to be on the extremly overkill side. Your right about the price jump between the 20 and 30 also:eek:

definitly not enough my 55 ton air over hydraulic has problems with certain axle bearings and pinion supports and the occasional task that friends will always ask when they no you have a big press the frame on the one in the picture is what i started out on and it wont hold up to big pressure its safe to about 10 tons

I had a hell of a time pressing the knuckles off of my 60 with my 50 ton press. I guess it all depends on what you are going to be using it for. You could always watch for local equipment auctions, there may be some good units there.

20 ton has been fine for me. i got the harbor freight 20 ton that comes complete when it was on sale a while ago for 160...
I got the harbor freight ( China Boat) 20 tonner too.
It works fine for what I do.
I just kinda stand back when it's jacked, you never know...

Basically the 20 ton is a dana 30 that you regear , just a starting point. I have had a 20 ton for years and it is in pitifull shape. It is barley enough for say a ford 9" axle bearing , the ones that stick. There are also numerous issues with certain gear setup that it will also acomplish but barley . If you also have any ideas of pressing the tubes out of the inner knuckle you will probably have to stand on the handle!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

My home/shop made 50 ton press does it's fair share or work.
so far it hasn't seen a bearing/tube/whatever it can't do.
But, I think those HF 20 ton tonner's are pretty cheesy.....
But it sure beats have nothing..! Oh, and I also bought
one of those heavy 3-ton arbor presses from HF.... it
sucks....... it's only good for doing seals.......

One buddy of mine has a "ho-made" 20 ton press that he built from some angle/channel iron and a 20 ton bottle jack. It works great for doing rear end work on late model stuff and is moderately portable. We've never had problems with it doing bearings on 30/35/44 TJ type stuff.
Another buddy has a 150 ton pneumatic driven press that frankly scares the piss out of me. I'm sure it has the same effect on the parts you're pressing as I've never gotten it over 3 tons.
