And lots of people have pointed out to me that some of my competitors offer multiple mounting holes.......

We looked at that 3 years ago and determined it was a complete waste of time and money. The caliper can be mounted anywhere in a 40 degree range and the bleeder will still be on top. The 14 bolt axle has a symetrical 4 bolt pattern so if you want changes you can use the left on the right and the right on the left. We make these to fit the stock spring placement so you can remove the caliper pins without removing the leaf spring (Kind of a major thing) and if you use blocks it is entirely beneath the spring.

So, in summary, we have looked at the bracket from every angle and there is no match. We review all of our designs every 6 months to make sure we don't have a new idea to add or something to change.

That is why we sell so many of these, no other reason. Well maybe the price has a little to do with it Spacers cost alot of money to make well and bends are cheap when you do more than a few at a time.

Dan,
I saw the dual caliper mount pic on your page under the caliper mount section, but no info. PM me if these are available for a 14 bolt.

We get the rest worked out they aren't worth much.....You would never want to run 2 calipers on the rear for the standard brake system.

I just installed the 14b rear caliper brakets and they fit perfect. Bent real nice and very heavy duty. Used '76 Caddy calipers w/e-brake. Had to open up the gap a fraction so the calipers would slide down in but otherwise no problems.

from the "dominant force in the rock crawling world", I read that somewhere!:shaking: and NO, we do not claim to be the dominant force, I could never be so vain.......:smokin: But someone seems to think they are taking over and they have a thing or 2 to learn first!

BTW, Brake brackets need to be tilted so you can bleed them.....there is also another reason we make them this way but I think I will save that reason for the dominant guy!

He asked me why I didn't position our brackets so that the caliper was on top???

I asked myself why would this guy ask such a silly question, I answered it and he said he was glad he called......

Now to find the answer all you have to do is look at a 14 bolt axle......They need to be the way we made them!

#1 answer is if you are running your 14 bolt with leaf springs you would have to drop the axle from the springs to remove the caliper, the pins will hit the springs if the caliper is running flat on top:D

#2 answer is how do you bleed your brakes if the caliper is flat? You can't buy them pre blead can you? You need 1 side of the caliper to be higher than the other, it dosen't really matter which cause you could always run the left on the right......:shaking:

Yes, we first made these bent nearly 3 years ago, not yesterday, we know the way they work:p

The increase in braking power should be governed so they can be properly adjusted, it is equally important offroad when you think of some of the decents we have ourselves do. You don't want the rear brakes locking up first...!

The $45 is for the brackets, they are $6 to ship....We aren't bargain basement, we are high quality at a fair price and we have always had this price, a couple of others lowered their high prices over the last year to compete with us but this has ALWAYS been our price.....

i would like to see front brackets for a ford60 to a gm caliper

Gravel Maker

Right now......

However, since you can still get them relatively easily they haven't been a priority and the last year has been a blur......

We are expanding dramitically though and now have 1 person working full time on development so I don't have to do everything myself in the middle of the night.....I also have 2 employees besides myself that are very good in CAD so we can speed up the bringing of new products to market.....

I will not say when we may have these but they are being worked on between many other things.....

On the D60, I believe no matter which vehicle the brackets go on the GM calipers are the way to go, I can't stand the Ford wedges and the GM calipers are way cheaper too.....

And will always!

I have recently seen many companies drop off the map as they struggle with the economy and ways to cope......My answer is to control growth, runaway growth is almost worse than low growth, way too hard to control prices and maintain delivery times.....

We are working on many new items that will be available at the kind of pace that can be maintained without developing debt of any kind, in a recession debt is what kills businesses. Watch for the new items weekly......

Dan I didnt read all the way through this so if its been sugested before Im sorry. Have you thought of adding a place to mount one of the small cable activated emergany brakes or combination calipers that wilwood makes. Part nubers are 120-9650 this is a caliper like the cady one that does both the ebrake and stops you and 120-2280 wich is just a little cable activated caliper used for things like drive line brakes. the 2nd one is only $100 for 2 if you had a bracket that could use those with GM standered calipers it would be way cheeper then using the cady calipers with e-brake for us guys that need one.

Gravel Maker
10-07-2008, 04:04 PM

HOWEVER, we were the first to actually improve on the design by bending them and we definately were the guys that made them affordable! Our price has always been $50, from day 1, we didn't have to lower our prices to be able to sell them. Most companies still sell these for $75 - 100 a pair but a few others are now bending them, it only makes sense.

BTW, the whole reason we give a dscount for Pirate readers is so we can measure where our sales are coming from, we don't only advertise here, we advertise on 42 different sites and I need to know which to spend time on.

But there seems to be a direct link between Sac and Boston so if you live near Boston you may get it sooner, we have had overnite deliveries to locations close to Boston.....At the standard price.

I was suprised when it was first reported to me too but if you are near to an East Coast postal hub, Boston, NY, DC, Charlotte, or Miami everything seems to be delivered a day or 2 faster. Sacramento is also a "Postal Hub" so they overnite everything between hubs.

We do not yet make one for the late model large caliper, the cost of the caliper alone has kept me away from those but i will look into it. Keeping ABS on a street truck makes great sense.

What ever happened with your front D44 brackets? I couldn't read all 26 pages..... :D

We stopped development on the D44 front for a period of time due to the great many internal hub stud patterns coming from the different manufacturers, however I hired one person to work solely on design with me and today we finished 2 new bolt on brake brackets, the Ford Sterling and the Ford 9". The 9" may require a couple of prototypes before it is perfect but the Sterling will be available late next week.

The D44 and AMC20 rear axles are on the plate tommorrow. And some people want to know why we have over 40 axles next door:D

Gravel Maker

With all the different parts we make it wouldn't make sense to rely on a friend having the axle or truck we need so we can test something. Thats why we have so many axles and vehicles here.....There is always something to make, or maybe make better that the other guy!

Gravel Maker
01-18-2009, 12:14 AM
I don't think any bracket we could make will ever catch up to the sheer quantiity of these we've sold! Who knows? Maybe? These are the number one seller because we make'em the right way and we make'em for a fair price!

Gravel Maker

4 More already in production! They are the Ford Sterling & 9", the D60 GM rear, and the D60 Ford rear.

Here are some of the others we are working on....

D20/AMC20
Chrysler 8.25
Dodge 9.25
D44 Scout
D44 Jeep

And yes, we will do some front brackets, I know they are getting hard to get from the yards.....leaving them on the axle makes them worth more to the yards.....

But......What do YOU want us to make?

I have a 14B C&C axle. I plan on shaving it and doing the disk brake conversion. My question is, what size (dia.) rims do i need to get to clear the calipers? You have listed using '75 Chevy 3/4 ton front rotors and calipers for this application I belive. Most factory set-ups were 16.5" truck rims for that year. Can I use 16" or must I go 16.5" or 17" rim? I only ask because it limits tire selection.

Thanks!

You can go 16 but stay away from the really large offset, 3.75 is good. Many 15" rims will work but when you buy the rims bring the rotor and you can check, all the rims have the same outside dimensions but the insides differ alot from manufacturer to manufacturer.....no 15" and most 16" aluminum will not fit due to the thickness.....

disc's on a 14 bolt and 15" wheels, about 60-70% fit fine, 10% with a small grind, and the rest just won't make it.....The wheel mfg'rs just don't share the same ideas when it comes to how the insides of the wheel should be shaped.....

Between us and the majority of the 4x4 companies out there.....

The primary difference is that we keep things in stock, we don't make it after its ordered. Seems like common sense to me but in the 4x4 marketplace it just isn't.

The second thing, and maybe the most important in this economy is we don't owe anyone a penny. If you carry a balance with someone it is pretty easy to get behind when order flow slows. I simply pay as I go. That may be why I drive a 2000 Ranger everyday and not some $60K truck to show how cool I am but I DO have $500K in inventory on the shelves!
