: Question for those with D20's

I'm considering undertaking a project to build a D20 doubler. Hold the Atlas comments :flipoff2: Let's hear your thoughts on the two options. If there is enough interest I'll start the ball rolling, else I'll stick with the plan to just run Tera gears.

Option 1: $500 - 750 for an adapter that mounts in place of the rear tail housing of the first D20 that allows the second D20 to be mounted. With clocking positions to drop down the front output. You would have to clock the second case down, or hack the front output off the first case and weld in a plate. I'm going to attempt this on one of my extra cases in the near future.

Option 2: $850 - 1,200 for a box that holds D20 input shaft - gears, and cluster gear with mounting for the second D20.

Both setup's could be equipped with the D20 texas pattern or the round D300 pattern. Now the money question, after the prototype is built how many of you would be willing to plunk down a deposit into an escrow account (I don't want any Red Line incidents). This would cover some of the cost associated with building the first units.

this is already done for the bronco dana 20's, check out the "cold duck" sold by www.wildhorses4x4.com. With the round bolt pattern of the bronco cases they flip the forward case over, and cut off the front output section, so that it is out of the way. Perhaps you could set something up with a bronco dana 20 in front of a jeep/scout one, so that the output's don't have interference issues. Otherwise, even by cutting off the front output you may be able to create enough driveshaft clearance, w/o clocking the rear t-case downward...

I talked to someone at Wild Horses about the Cold Duck setup. Claimed it will not work with the Scout - Jeep D20's. I'm trying to avoid having to use a tranny adapter for the middle case. Also Bronco D20's are harder to come by then Scout - Jeep D20's and the Cold Duck is $1,100 plus options.

My buddy and I have talked about doing this to his Jeep. I think a box that held D20 gears (maybe even Tera D20 gears if you wanted to get really low) with a Texas pattern on each end would be ideal. Jeep and Scout D20 cases are plentiful and cheap, plus it would also work with D18s. How long would this thing end up being?
