I have replaced the old exhaust manifold with a header and when I went to put the carb on it only came with one gasket for the carb. The islolator/adapter plate or base of carb did not seem to have any old gasket on them. I put the new gasket on the base of the carb. Please tell me if this is correct. Did a search also. 78 fj40 with 2f Thanks

Yeah, the carb rebuild kits usually only supply the one gasket between the carb and the insulator; but I always replace the gasket between the insulator and manifold also. Whenever I've had manifold leaks, most of the time its been between the insulator and the intake manifold. I usually just make my own gasket since it's such a simple pattern.

The carb insulator has a gasket permanently bonded on one side. I forget which side it is, but it should be obvious. If it is screwed up, you can sand it off and use another gasket. Don't use RTV or gasket sealer as there are some imortant air passages in the base of the carb.

The bottom of the insulator did have the 91 gasket that shipwreck posted and it did look perm. I had the 90b and did place it between the carb and the isolator but I could not remove any old gasket from either side. I also used ultra hi temp gasket rtv on the face of the gasket and the carb and isolators. If it is as pinhead says and there are air passages if I used this(rtv) just were the gasket covers would I be ok? Thanks Mobiltoy
