 Hey guys, on my new to me 1991 K5 Blazer I have a gas issue I think.

When I fill it up, the gas gauge goes about a half an inch past full, I would say about 9 gallons past the full line almost exactly.

Well if I fill it up from 1/4 tankl left it is about 23 gallons to fill. Is it safe to assume I have the 31 Gallon tank and I can run it closer to Empty? Or is my gauge off pretty bad and I probably have the 26 gallon tank?

I was just wondering if this was a common problem others might have had, thanks!

i dont have a k5 but i do have a 96 tahoe, my gauge goes past my full line as well, but durning stoping and going it changes.... If i speed up i have more fuel, but slowing down needle drops towards empty... but even though my needle goes past F, when it reads empty, it means EMPTY so i knoticed driving home one day :) when i ran out of gas.... ha..

i would say drive it till it stalls, but just bring like 5 gallons with you in a spare tank, that way you know how your fuel gauge would respond to empty..

I have a 94 truck and it goes close to 10 gallons past full but as I also found out empty is EMPTY.I ran out of gas and two weeks later my fuel pump died go figure guess thats why the napa reciept says for max life dont go under 1/3 tank.Mine also goes real quick after 1/2 tank.
So if you can help i would not recomend going below a 1/4 tank
good luck

Thank you everyone, yeah I am just going to fill up at half tank I guess to be safe.

It is about $70 there anyways, that is enough damage haha.

Thanks again.
