: Man made Rockcrawl course
mudlite 04-16-2002, 05:59 AM I am looking for pics, or pages with home made courses. Dual track , 100' rock courses that are built for 4x4 jamboree events.
I have a guy interested locally , but need something to show him.
It gets lost in the interperatation some times. One mans rock is another mans gravel.:D :D :D :D
So send em my way please.
ARokCrwlr 04-16-2002, 06:37 AM more on the way
ARokCrwlr 04-16-2002, 06:39 AM another

mudlite 04-16-2002, 06:45 AM Keep them coming. I saw a nice areal shot some where? maybe from the stands, but it was a great shot of a dual track set up.
ARokCrwlr 04-16-2002, 06:49 AM one more
ARokCrwlr 04-16-2002, 06:50 AM last one - really

Yep. Pictures don't do it justice. It's a real good course.
sjb83cj 04-16-2002, 07:14 AM This is in Cass Ark. We went up there for the Ramsey thing last weekend, they had about 125 feet of fun in the rockgarden, a couple of steep hill climbs with lots of ledges and rocks and trees to get around on the way up, also some S trenchs with mud and trees and rocks in the way, it was a good way to spend the weekend.

Wil have to check it out next weekend. We are staying at Crawfords for the Venture. ( yea I know, Unoficial SMV)
What do you figure the minimum tire is for that course?
Cherokee Paul 04-16-2002, 09:11 AM We just had an expo here in the Springs where they built a course just like you're describing. here's a URL (http://www.colorado4x4.org/cgi-bin/ubb/ultimatebb.cgi?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=000753)
There was a easier track running along the inside for the "stock" class vehicles.
There was only one modified rig that actually made it through, and quite a few "ultra-modified" vehicles that had a hard time getting through. As always, the pictures don't do it justice.
Over the weekend, had 2 roll-overs onto their sides, several broken driveshafts, one broken transfer case, several broken axles, one broken knuckle.. Pretty good weekend :)

I think 35-36" tires would be minimum - bigger would be better. Of course if you are a damn good driver and/or don't mind banging your way through it, smaller is possible. I have seen several heavily modified rigs not make it through un-aided. And I have seen one EB on 33's do it-he hit every line perfect and still dragged his diffs a good bit, but he made it look pretty.
EasyXJ 04-16-2002, 12:55 PM My club is staying at Crawfords in July. I was down there when he was just getting the rocks in, it wasn't anything like those pics are showing. Should be a great time.

mudlite 04-16-2002, 05:46 PM wow, those are handmade courses? Almost looks better than mother nature. Waite.................it is natural!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I was looking for arena style courses, not trail rides.
But cool shots non the less.
Cherokee Paul 04-16-2002, 06:17 PM Look back at my post. The shots there are of a course, all confined to an area of about half an acre.. if that.. Was built for the expo only.

They are man made for the most part. We dug out the dirt and added some rocks on each of them. The course in the first 3 shots is mostly made up of rocks we dug up and moved there and the last shot was a spot that we removed dirt and added a few rocks in nasty spots to help make it a bitch. So we just used what we were given and hell ya they are tougher than the con.
EasyXJ 04-17-2002, 06:36 AM OK, where are you guys getting your rocks? All the aggregate places around here give the "deer in the headlights" look when I ask for VW sized rocks. I'd like to put in a 200'+ course behind my barn so I can test my mods.
Easy
rockbound 04-17-2002, 07:10 AM pretty much, i did that at a local construction zone. they were pulling out nothing but rocks when they were excavating an area for a new home depot, the man in charge said bring a rig and we will load you up as many time as you come back, just had no place to put all the rocks! :mad3:
I have a class a cdl, and have access to many tri axles pretty much whenever I need one!
but no land for rocks,, o-welll some daY!

Hey, that's me!!! Crawfords has a nice facility and 2 nice rock courses. The other one is a beast!!!! My little jeep would be swallowed into some of those rocks.
Sorry not much help, but had to reply...
Ricky...seeya...
66CJdean 04-17-2002, 08:49 PM Try places where they are building houses or new roads. They seem to be more willing to part with them.
mudlite 04-24-2002, 11:38 AM Need Directions to Crawfords!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
