Well the Excursion is no longer with us. We stopped in Weatherford today on the way back to look a red F350 with the Western Hauler Bed, and guess what was setting behind it.. http://www.texasoffroad.net/galleries/ohv/album320
They had just traded for it. It is an F-450, 2003, 71k miles, 4x4, 6.0, western hauler bed... I set the cruise with the trailer loaded with 23 Mil tires and wheels and it never kicked the overdrive off on any of the hills.. Didn't get to test it on Ranger hill (for those familiar with I20 going through Ranger TX) the truckers were being a pain...but none of the other hills make the OD kick off..it was great.. I know, YELLOW, but the color was not a factor when they told me the price and what they would give me for my trade, and it was an F-450!!!
Runs like a champ..but you never know..a Cummins may be in its future if the 6.0 gives me any problems....mainly because this is the chassis I have wanted for a long time..:D

I am a happy camper...!!

nice rig, I like the color :D

all I can say is DO NOT pull the hills in OD, whether the truck shifts on it's own or not. You are building heat and will slowly kill your transmission... or it will just grenade one day.

I actually has a factory trans temp gage, so I plan to keep a close eye on it..but I will never load it to it's capacity. I have a 20' bumper pull car hauler that I pull with my 70 Bronco, and a 32' Fleetwood Travel Trailer... no where near the trucks capacity, but it was a great deal and I have always wanted an F450 or 550...it is overkill, but I don't see a problem with that...:D :D

Nice Rig. Pretty clean looking considering it's a work truck....

That factory temp gauge is more of an idiot light. I never could make mine go into the red on my 2004, including when pulling at full throttle in 4 low and barely moving for more than 15 minutes (pulling a broke semi up a big hill)

I'd suggest throwing an aftermarket gauge in there! I'm not sure where, but I've read that where the factory gauge is, there isn't much of a fluctuation. Post cooler I'd imagine?

Thanks for the heads up. I may look into an electronic monitor system of sorts.. I just don't want to chip it..have heard horror stories...

Def. get an aftermarket tranny guage. My stock guage won't move at all until my autometer hits about 215.

What tranny does it have? A co-worker has an F-450 with the 6.0 and an Allison 6-speed behind it. I didn't know if the Allison was an option or what...

Huh...not realy sure on the tranny.. From what I read it has Ford's new TorqueShift electronic 5 speed.. I haven't had a change to crawl under it and really look at it yet.. :D
