: In Wentworth? Where? How long?

We're planning a run to the con, and a group of us are planning to get there at around 7:30PM and another group are coming in around 11PM to loon.. Is that enough time to go in through wentworth and meet them back at loon/gatekeeper/granite bowl area? To avoid heading the wrong way through gatekeeper on a friday night, I'm thinking we could just meet them at the top/bottom of the granite bowl.

We're fast, and don't get stuck often. all of us are on 36"+ tires, and we've wheeled the loon to spider (and beyond) portion lots of times. So is the wentworth leg roughly similar to getting to walker hill? soup bowl?

Are there any things to note about getting to wentworth? I'm assuming I just keep going straight instead of turning towards loon, and we'll find our way? Are there any special notes about parking a trailer at wentworth?

Thanks guys! :)

Check out the Rubicon Trail Home Page for directions to WW Springs road. Trailer parking is limited, but right after you get off pavement.

Thanks for the where Del. From the description on your page, it sounds like its dirt road for most of the way.

So any idea on the how long part of the question? if I park my trailer at airport flats, and take the dirt road, the whole way?

Thanks!

Muck, sounds like it should only take you a couple of hours to go from Wentworth to Loon. Only two potential tough spots between Wentworth and where the trails merge at Ellis. One is the Devils Postpile area just a little ways past the Wentworth Campground. Trail becomes rocky and climbs, the difficult part is just the last step right near the top. The next tough section is after you cross the granite. There is a nice sluice box type section. I am not sure if this is part of the "official" trail and it is possible that you could miss it if you stay up high (drivers left) going across the granite. After that its a quick jaunt into the trees and your at the intersection

The Wentworth entrance has a bit of 2WD dirt road before you hit any tough spots. So you can make pretty good time through that. When you finally do have to switch over to 4wd you're pretty close to the intersection. I actually like that way better than the Loon trailhead. Its very scenic and a lot less traffic (and I mean a LOT less). I wouldn't be too worried about traffic at gatekeeper though since that obsticle is no longer there. :mad3:

Anybody know how the mud/water section of the trail at Wentworth is? Is it draining or 3' deep?

I discussed this quite a bit at the work weekend, and Disco was kind enough to scout it out. :grinpimp: At least two groups have been through with shovels to work some drainage, so the deepest non-bypassable water is about 27" deep.
