Are you asking or stating?? According to jeff and dave at the usfs pacific district, it will be a summer long transition to "closed". The trails to Bassi falls traverse private (SPI, and other’s) and public (usfs) land. The land owners have requested to have their property closed and protected, due to the excessive and continually growing number of “spur” trails being created on the private land. The plan is to leave access to the few camping spots accessable by solely traveling on public land. Any point of the trail(s) past the private land will be closed to all vehicular travel. The silting samples taken along this trail have far surpassed the collections taken at any and all other silt sampling stations in all of the usfs. This is, of course a major consideration in the closing of this trail system, indicating a huge destruction of resources in the area. If you need to see the silt damage for yourself, hike down the creek where it enters Union Valley reservoir. You will see how over the years this particular inlet to the lake has become filled with sediment. More-so than the other inlets to the lake. This is just a FYI, I am not associated with the usfs in any way, I am just passing along what I was told by usfs employees about the Bassi falls trails being closed.

The fawking silting issues are becoming a bit lame. Erosion happens with the help of man. Just look at what happend to Slide Mt. Well, it is ok to dam up a creek, cut down a megillion trees, flood the valleys, drive trucks all over a virgin forest to put up power lines, and make some money off the electricity. Getting sick of all the BS. Next dude I see tearing up a trail is gunna get a gd bat upside the head.

So far basi is still open. My buddies and I went all the way to the falls and turned back. The bad news is that the high road is blocked by a buncha huge rocks and there are piles of rocks and logs on the side of the main entrance, like it will be blocekd off soon. What relly bugs me is that it looks like it's being closed due to logging. some of the campsites ine the meadow are trashed w/ debris from cut trees. My advice, go this weekend while you still can.

went to bassi on the 12-14 and some people i know were talking to some hiker dudes that were with the forest something. they gave us a long lecture about how if we made trails where the water rolled off the side and not down the trail that less trails would be closed. its a bunch of bs .they also said they will make the actual trail to the camping area flatter and gravel so you can still camp, fish, and hike. they also said there was gonna be a higher gravel road that led to a spot close to the falls, but you would have to walk a mile to actually get there. its stupid. i plan to go every weekend till its closed.

also i was trying to go on some of the trails that are branched to the right of the trail to the falls and they are all blocked by loggs from loggers. it pisses me off cause it does look like they will log the whole trail, and if thats the real reason they close the trail ill be pissed.

Sierra Pacific Industries (SPI) is doing a land swap with the Forest Circus. When SPI finishes raping the land(which will result in a shit load of erosion)of it's logs it will become USFS land and CLOSED from the camping area to the falls.
So for all you wanna be wheelers that have for years disrespected this awsome area you can now go to the Strawberry trail(Hwy 50 to Hwy 88) and do your incredible deed over there. DO NOT attempt to use the Rubicon as you will be quickly identified and delt with.

Yup. So next time you see some punks on your favorite trail using bail outs, dropping garbage, hitting trees and or just being general assholes, think to yourself on how you want to handle it. Because the REAL reason Bassi is now closed is because of non-conscious, disrespectful sub-humans that trashed YOUR land.
