need some info on brake lines to replace a steel discontinued brake line for a 1970 fj40.
it runs from the left fender across the front under/near the radiator to the right fender. at each end are union joints. spector catalog part # 086-49A
the shop that did some work on my cruiser said they tried a bunch of different lines, but could not get anything to work. does that year use a special thread ?
different size that is not available in the states ? any helo would be greatly appreciated.

I don't know if this applies to your 70 model, but on my 68 the fittings were 9 mm. I picked up some used ones from Wardens to make the lines. Before I started I found a couple of the 10mm tee's and decided to upgrade to them since they can be found new already on lines, at local auto stores. Be sure and get the asian metric stuff. I was doing the mini truck brake swap at the same time so it made sense. The line size seems to be the same for both fittings.

Does anyone know when Toyota Switched from STANDARD THREAD to METRIC?

Up until 1967, Japan was using USA threading standards. Wierd trivia, but MITI had all companies switch to METRIC starting with any new designs starting in 1967. If something was already in production it remained as was, when new items were designed they went to Metric fittings. There was a little confusion, as SOME metric fittings were odd ball French Standards (i.e. carb screw being 5mm x 0.75 threading, yet 5mm x 0.80 being later used)... then they started using more common stuff (screws meeting ISO standards have the dimple on the screw head, etc).

Anyone have any historical details on what threading was used?

(Long time Datsun fanatic, so I could explain why a '68 Datsun 2000 had SAE brake (3/8" x 24 tpi) lines , yet the 510 had Metric threading (10mm x 1.00)... yet both were produced at the same time, etc).
