: sbc 400 good?

i want a burb with an sbs 400 in it but i have no clue about that engine so i was wonderin if it was a good engine or not to have, and maybe hp, tq, and gas ratings, if anyone would be so kind

its a decent motor, just keep an eye on temp. jsut liek anything else take good care of it and itll serve you for a long time, as for hp i think ive seen 260 in stock form with smog but i dunno if thats right. but id buy a rig wit hthe 400 without hessitation if its a good price

One of the best motors ever built IMO.. The power and torque are hard to beat when built right.. The only downfall if there is any are the Siamese cylinders and the well argued steam hole debate..

I have seen a 400sb in a 1972 Blazer that was running 40 inch tires go 12's in 1/4 and lift the front tires off of the ground at 30 mph :D Not to mention this is also a DD :smokin:

A big radiator and proper maintenance on your cooling syatem and you will be happy with it.

light weight + power = lots of fun.


As with anything if you build it right and take care of it then you can get plenty of use out of it.
