View Full Version : Tying down the a$$ end of a TJ on a trailer?

I have found plenty of good places on the front axle to tie off to, but I can't find a good place on the rear D44 to hook to or put a strap around. The metal brake lines runs the length of the axle so if I put a short strap around the tube, it rubs on the brake line. I've got to haul the thing 4,000 miles next month and any help would be appreciated.

Here is a link to the tie-down pack that we sell. *PACK LINK* (http://www.pirate4x4.com/forum/showthread.php?t=411098)
It comes with axle straps that have a flat style ring in them. These can be placed between the axle tube and the brake line with ease, and the Cordura cover keeps them from getting rubbed on by the brake lines.

Throwing you a bone here, but I use a chain around the front of the housing and hook it to both sides of the trailer behind the tires of the rig on the trailer (kinda a 'v' shape).
This kind of thing has been covered ad naseum if you would search a little.

On my TJ I *think* used chains with J-hooks on the end (I sold the TJ about 9 months ago). The J-hooks did not touch the brake lines when I put them on from under the axle tube.

Thanks. I will look into the J-hooks.

move the brakeline slightly off the top center of the axle
weld some type of cover (angle iron, half pipe) over the line
and that's only the first 10 seconds of thought.

I had thought about welding half-tube over my brake lines, then realized that the lines are easily bent a little and the straps like Trailer Guy stated fit right under them.

I like that idea, the half pipe. Thanks!
You must be a pretty smart fellar with one of them high powered brains to think up somethin' like that in only 10 seconds. You must have been havin' an off day when you bought that Zuki. :) :) :) :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:
Thanks again,
