I hate to ask such a silly question, but does anyone know offhand what the axle nut size is on a Waggy 44 rear? It's '80+ if it matters. I've searched pirate and googled in general and I haven't been able to come up with an answer.

If I have to I will pull a back drum and check, but I would like to add one to my toolbox before tomorrow's run and I won't have time to pull a wheel before then. I got caught this past weekend without having all the tools on board I needed to pull a front axle in an emergency. I've got what I need for the front should I ever have another problem, but I don't think I have a socket big enough to pull the rear if need be. The local Napa guy's are usually pretty helpful but none of them were sure what size socket the D44 used either.

The bolts that hold the rear axle in are only 9/16" or 5/8" I don't remember because I just put in 9/16" grade 8 bolts.

axle unt? on a rear 44? they have bearing retainer plates and come off with 9/16" wrenches I thought? at least every 44 rear I have seen mail jeep to even late model tj's. the ones with axle nuts are amc 20 rears with 2 peice axles.

Excellent. I'm covered with what I'm already carrying then. I almost had to let the YJ sit in the woods for lack of a spindle socket for the front this past weekend, so I'm trying to make sure I have my bases covered. For some reason I had thought they had a single big nut.

Thanks to both of you for the quick replies.
