I have a TF 999 and a 207 transfer case behind a 5.7 TBI motor. I have to replace the 207 soon and I am thinking about changing the transmission too, so I can have an overdrive. Does anyone know if there is a GM 4X4 that was made with a 700R4 and a 241 transfer case with a driver side drop? If so which years and vehicles did they come in? Is there an SYE kit available for it? Has anyone here done a swap like this? Will a 241 fit without a body lift or skidplate drop?

1) Yes
2) Most fullsize GM 4x4's 88-95 came with this combo, they started transistion to the 4l60e in the later years but it is basically the same untill you get to the removable bellhousing version of the 4l60e. JB conversions makes at least two SYE's for the 241.
3) 241 fits fine (in a CJ, wouldn't expect the YJ to be much more of a problem), you'll have to modify the linkage a bit but its a simple setup.

Thanks, that is good news. One of these days I am going to start asking around the salvage yards to see what I can get. As far as I know, there are no salvage yards around here that allow customers to wander their lots anymore. That leaves me at their mercy when asking for parts.

Exactly what I am running behind my 4.0. I like the lower first gear, works pretty damn good. The 7r4 you want is the larger spline 27 count I beleive. and the case is the 241C. You will end up witha fairly short drive shaft though. My wheel base is extended 6 inches so it doesn't bother me.

These guys will have the stuff to handle your lock up.

I have a yj with a 350/700r4/np231SYE combo under it with ford D60's front and rear on stock wheel base and yet it all fits, but that rear driveshaft reminds me of one I was looking at in a CJ5
