My heep is overheating. Its an 02' TJ 2.5L manual. Only starts overheating when the A/C is on of course. Took about 20 minutes to start overheating. The only thing is the actual reading diden't show it to be running TOO hot. It was just a hair above 210 degress which is dead center at the top. So it was just barely to the right of center. I don't know if the dealer thermostat is a failsafe and if so that would explain why the engine isn't heating up way too much, but just enough too boil after a good 20 minutes. I bought a new 195 degree thermostat but also had wanted to get a 180 degree thermostat before. Guy at autozone said that the 180 thermostat may interfere w/ sensors and effect performance. SOOOO I want as much information on people who use a lower thermostat in newer jeeps. Also I would like to have information on other easy ways to lower engine temps, when the engine is in the lower RPM range. I have seen new water pumps for around $99 but others said they were more. These pumps advertise to flow more water at idle and below 2,000 RPM. Would like feed back on aftermarket water pumps. I also have bent my radiator just a bit by a powerwasher on accident, but I figure that the small amount of damage it did was minimal, since it does not leak, or take up much room. I have thought about going back and bending the fins straight out if at all possible. Any feed back would be appreciated.

A lower temp thermostat will not improve the cooling. At 200 degrees all the thermostats will be wide open. Take a look at the radiator. Any blockage? I assume the shroud is still in place - that is crucial. May want to consider a radiator upgrade.
